Dallas Cowboys Great Bob Hayes in NFL Hall of Fame

January 31, 2009 by Guest Contributor · 2 Comments

Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor member Bob Hayes was named as a 2009 inductee to the NFL Hall of Fame. Bob Hayes is the only NFL player to win both an Olympic gold medal, and a Super Bowl Ring.

Hayes was almost inducted in 2004, however the conglomeration of stupidity that is the Hall of Fame induction committee failed to let him in, no doubt due to the fact that he was a Dallas Cowboy.

Some have argued that Hayes was undeserving of induction, like this moron. (Quick tip, saying someone doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame, after saying they changed the game of football in the same sentence makes you sound stupid)

A quick review of Bob Hayes’ athletic career will show how stupid that idea was.

Bob Hayes started out his athletic career as an excellent sprinter. He won the NCAA National Championship in the 200-meter dash in 1964, and was later named to the U.S. 1964 Summer Olympics Team.

At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Hayes won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash while tying the world record at 10.0 seconds. He later topped this feat while the anchor of the U.S. 4×100 meter relay team. In a come from behind win, Hayes led the U.S. to gold in the event.

After the 1964 Summer Olympics, Bob Hayes was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. It was thought by many a controversial pick for the Dallas Cowboys however, in his first two seasons in the NFL, Hayes led the league in touchdown receptions.

Bob Hayes had an impressive career in the NFL. With the Dallas Cowboys, Hayes was named to the Pro-Bowl 3 times, won 5 Eastern Conference Titles, 2 NFC Titles, and helped the Dallas Cowboys to their first Super Bowl win, in Super Bowl 6 in 1971.

Even more impressive was the way Hayes revolutionized the game of football. The zone defense was developed because of Bob Hayes. His flat out speed meant no one player could cover him, forcing defenses to double team him, which opened up the field for the Dallas Cowboys run game. While his career began to fade as more teams used the zone and bump-and-run, these schemes were developed in part as a response to him.

Bob Hayes has always belonged in the NFL Hall of Fame. On top of his impressive career, he has won the ultimate prize in two sports. Thank goodness the Hall of Fame Selection Committee finally got this one right.

Video Gordon Keith Fight | Nasty Nestor Chokes Gordon Keith Video

January 30, 2009 by Guest Contributor · 15 Comments

On Radio Row at the Super Bowl, Baltimore radio host Nasty Nestor Aparicio attempted to choke Gordon Keith from Dallas radio station 1310 The Ticket. The video of the Gordon Keith fight was taken from the Ticket webcam. The altercation occurred after Gordon Keith walked over to Nasty Nestor with a microphone in an attempt to end a feud that has been going on for almost 10 years.

The audio of the incident is available on the UnTicket.com. From the audio, it is clear that Gordon Keith was not trying to provoke Nasty Nestor, who reacted quite violently.

You can also see the video of the Gordon Keith fight here.

The video does not show the initial assault, however after Nasty Nestor is shown attacking Gordon Keith again and having to be restrained by one of his assistants.

Nasty Nestor has a history of saying mean-spirited, hateful things. In May of 2008, Nasty Nestor wrote an article for a Baltimore magazine in which he disparaged the homeless. In January, Norm Hitzges tried to settle differences with Nasty Nestor, who responded with profanities and shouting. Later that week, Corby Davidson also attempted to make peace. Nasty Nestor responded with more profanity and accused Corby Davidson of having a hidden microphone. Corby then said “I swear to the good Lord I do not have a microphone.” In response, Nasty Nestor said he thought Corby didn’t even believe in God because Corby was” a F#$@ing Jew,

This is just the latest incident involving Nasty Nestor. I hope the NFL does not allow him back to the Super Bowl after such an embarrassing childish display.

What is also disappointing is in the video, when Gordon Keith and Junior Miller complain to an NFL representative about Nasty Nestor, the representative scolds Gordon Keith for “F#$%-ing with people.” As a representative of the NFL, he should have kept out of the situation. Hopefully the NFL does what is right and bans Nestor. In this situation the Ticket did nothing wrong.

Nasty Nestor Aparicio Attacks Gordon Keith

January 30, 2009 by Guest Contributor · 70 Comments

This morning on Radio Row at Super Bowl 43 in Tampa, “Nasty Nestor” Aparicio, a controversial Baltimore radio host attacked Gordon Keith. The incident is the latest in an on-going feud between Nasty Nestor and the Ticket.

We also have the video of the Gordon Keith fight. The video comes from the  Ticket’s live webcam.

Apparently, Gordon Keith went over to Nasty Nestor Aparicio with a wireless microphone to attempt to bury the hatchet between the two parties, when Nasty Nestor became angry, grabbed Gordon Keith around the throat and attempted to strangle him. The two were then separated and the police were called.

This is not the first incident between Nasty Nestor and the Ticket. In 2008, at the Super Bowl coverage, Corby Davidson went to Nasty Nestor to make peace. Nestor Aparicio began swearing at Corby Davidson and accused him of having a hidden mic, to which Corby responded, “I swear to the good Lord I do not have a microphone.” Nasty Nestor then allegedly called Corby a “(Explitive)-ing Jew.”

What’s important to remember is that Corby Davidson is not Jewish. Apparently Nasty Nestor had a Mel Gibson moment.

In the latest incident, Gordon Keith did have a microphone, but it is clear from the audio that he was not trying to provoke Nasty Nestor. Keith is now considering whether or not to file charges against Nasty Nestor. Anyone who was recording the live webcast of the incident, which was broadcast on the Ticket’s webcam, is encouraged to contact the Ticket immediately.

According to the detective who interviewed both Gordon Keith and Nestor Aparicio, Nasty Nestor was swearing and yelling while talking to police.

Nasty Nestor is no stranger to controversy. In addition to his alleged anti-semitic comments, Nestor Arapicio has written complaining about the homeless, which garnered a huge amount of controversy in May of 2008, and led a walk-out from a Baltimore Orioles game, which caused the Orioles to deny Nasty Nestor media credentials the next season, after which Nestor threw another tantrum. Let’s rue the day free poker sees Nestor’s wrath.

Update

Gordon Keith has not said anything more regarding the incident, but he did post about it on his blog.

Best Super Bowl Commercials Videos

January 28, 2009 by Guest Contributor · 2 Comments

No matter what your team loyalties, the Super Bowl is always a great time for any football fan. Even if you cannot get into the game, or hate both teams, there is still one great part of the game, the Super Bowl Commercials.

Over the years there have been some real gems. Who can forget the “WAZZUP” commercial, or the “Nothing But Net” spot. As you prepare for the big game on Sunday, stop for a moment and re-live some of the best Super Bowl Commercials from the past.

First off lets get the serious ones out of the way. Often viewed as one of the best Super Bowl commercials ever, the 1984 Macintosh Commercial is definitely lacking the funny, though the chick in the Hooter’s uniform is kinda random. Just watch it and get ready for comic gold.

There. That’s over. Now to the good stuff.

For those at work, please stop and consider the consequences of reviewing some of the best Super Bowl Commercials ever while on the job. Here is a reminder of what could happen if you are caught by your very own Office Linebacker.

One of the best of the 2008 Super Bowl commercials was the screamer ad. A husband and wife are off on a pleasant country drive when disaster nearly strikes as the couple almost runs down a squirrell. thankfully everyone is ok, but it was truly a close call.

This one received a significant amount of controversy, but I still think it is one of the best Super Bowl commercials ever. Every guy has had a moment where he does something that calls his sexuality into question. There is only one true way to prove you manhood.

This next one is just glorious. Japan has Mothra and Godzilla. America has something even better.

Never trust your friends. This next ad shows why.

Streaking is always discouraged at sporting events. It is disruptive and takes away from the spirit of any game. It is still a worldwide phenomenon, striking at games all over the world.

And now, this last one may not be the best Super Bowl commercial ever, but it is truly a moment of genius. Will Ferrell in truly a moment of glory. Enjoy the sage wisdom of Jackie Moon.

There you have it. Some of the best Super Bowl Commercials. Hopefully Super Bowl 43 will have some other comedic gems that will stand the test of time.

Martellus Bennett Video | Martellus Raps

January 26, 2009 by Guest Contributor · 2 Comments

It is with great regret that I must inform you, the reader, that Martellus Bennet has removed his controversial rap from YouTube. Nevertheless, I have found another video of the Rhymenocerous in all his glory.

One of the saddest trends in sports is the growing number of super star athletes who have convinced themselves that they can have a successful career as a rapper. Dallas Cowboys tight-end Martellus Bennett joins the list as the newest in a long line of athletes turned musician.

I have found a video of Martellus Bennett rapping. It is… umm….. interesting.

Pause for a moment to enjoy the musical stylings of Martellus Bennett.

I know.

It’s sad.

Don’t get me wrong, I really want to rip on this guy. I just can’t think of the words to describe this brand of douchebaggery. I am at a complete loss.

To be honest, the Martellus Bennet video makes Eric Cartman look like Andrea Boccelli. Here is the proof.

Hopefully Martellus Bennett will give up on the music career and stick to football. Leave the singing to the professionals.

Nick Name: “Little Evil”

Their Previous Match

The official score cards read: 50-45 and 50-44 and 50-44 for Urijah Faber in one of the most challenging fights Faber had faced in years.  Though the judges scored in Faber’s favor (10-9) for the first two rounds, Jens Pulver landed several significant blows that showed both Faber and the world he was there to fight.  It was the first time in years that WEC audiences had seen someone send a message to Faber–it was the first time in years they had seen a fight go past the 2nd round.  In the third round, however, Pulver, sporting swelling under his right eye, began to fight on the defensive as Faber’s conditioning and fighting style continued at a pace  unexpected by the challenger.  Though Faber finished the 5th round, he knew it was not a fight that would go in his favor.  In an an interview after the fight, Jens admitted that Urijah “dictated the fight”.  Still, he accomplished what no other 145 pounder could accomplish in recent years–he took Faber the distance.

Though the WEC is notorious for exchanges of words both pre and post fight, this one ended with two accomplished professionals complimenting each other on both their abilities and performances in the fight.

Urijah Faber

Until 2008, Urijah Faber simply walked into the ring and eliminated opponents in fraction of the time allotted for his fights.  In 2007, examples of Urijah Faber’s dominance in the extreme cage fighting would include his submission of Dominik Cruz in 1:38 into the first round or Chance Farrar who submitted at the 3:19 mark of round one.  In 2008, however, things changed.

On June 1 of 2008, Urija Faber was take to a decision after rounds in his first encounter with Jens “Little Evil” Pulver.  The fight was exemplary of their strengths and ended in an unrivaled display of sportsmanship where both fighters praised the other’s ability in the ring.  On November 5, 2008, Urijah Faber’s world significantly changed in a first round technical knock out (TKO) he experienced as a result of an explosive set of blows by Mike Brown that not only lost him his title but knocked him off of a pedestal that showcased him as one of the unique and unstoppable fighters in this format.

Jens Pulver

After 30 professional fights and a solid track record in the UFC, Jens Pulver made a statement on December 12, 2007 by defeating Cub Swanson in his WEC debut in a mere 35 seconds via a choke hold.  This quickly sky rocketed him to a title bout with then WEC champion Urijah Faber where he took Faber the distance which forced a decision after five rounds.  Though he lost the decision, he accomplished things no fighter before him had done–he survived the first two rounds with Faber.  Beyond survival, there were several points in the fight where he placed doubts as to whether Faber could beat him and in the end made Faber work harder than he ever had in recent years.

On Nov 5th, 2007, to the surprise of many, Jens Pulver incurred his second defeat in the WEC, by technical knock out (TKO), at the hands of Leonard Garcia.

In an interview posted on Versus site, he stated that he “is excited” and “expects things to be different this time”.

What’s On The Line

Both fighters have ground to make up due to recent losses.  Urijah’s loss in particular was unexpected and cast doubt on him being considered one of the top MMA fighters in the world..   This isn’t one of those “get your confidence back” fights however.  These two fighters are arguably the most skilled 145 pound fighters in the world and they both are fighting to get back what they’ve lost which ups the adreniline and ultimately what is on the line with this fight.  For the winner, it is back on the title track.  For the loser, it could set back dreams for 18 months or more to come.  NOT A FIGHT TO MISS!

To this date, the only time that Urijah Faber has had that had more riding on it was a street brawl in Indonesia where he found himself in a fight for his life.

Super Bowl 43 Preview: Arizona Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

January 19, 2009 by Guest Contributor · Leave a Comment

Kurt Warner is going back to the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl. Wow! I never thought I would ever say those two sentences.

In what comes as a major surprise to sports fans throughout the country. Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Kurt Warner will be in the Super Bowl as the Arizona Cardinals face Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl 43.

Kurt Warner, who is NOT a grandfather, contrary to what I thought, has made one of the biggest career comebacks ever and breathed a new life into the Arizona Cardinals offense. With big reciever threats in Boldin and Fitzgerald, the Arizona Cardinals have certainly proved tough for defenses to stop. The Cardinals now face the intimidating Pittsburgh Steelers defense in a Super Bowl 43 match-up that few, if any, were expecting.

Expect further coverage to follow on Dallas Sports Fans, but for now, here are the basic details of the game so you can make your plans to watch Super Bowl 43:

Pittsburgh Steelers v Arizona Cardinals

  • Date: Sunday, February 1, 2009
  • Time: 6:25 PM ET
  • TV: NBC
  • Announcers: Al Michaels and John Madden
  • Location: Tampa Bay
  • Point Spread: Pittsburgh Steelers -6 1/2
  • Over-Under: 47
  • Official Site: Super Bowl 43
  • Haltime Show: Bruce Springsteen
  • Super Bowl 43 Media Day: Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Expect the points spread to change as the Super Bowl gets closer and closer, but the consensus is the Steelers will win this one. Personally, I am rooting for the Arizona Cardinals, not because I love underdogs, but I will root for every team that ruins the Philadelphia Eagles season.

What is your prediction for Super Bowl 43, Arizona or Pittsburgh?

LOTD: Why are so Many Teams Firing Head Coaches?

January 13, 2009 by Guest Contributor · Leave a Comment

With the end of any season, sports fans can expect to see some teams fire their coaches and start fresh. The end of this years NFL season was no exception, with numerous NFL teams dropping their head coaches after disapointing seasons.

The Detroit Lions and Saint Louis Rams coaches were certain to be fired, as were some others as tenures ran out and owners patience ran thin. While Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is apparently safe, other teams are interviewing Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett to fill their vacancy.

Sportsfans of Boston put out an interesting article analyzing several recent vacancies. Here’s an excerpt of the article:

Rod Marinelli
Of these head coaches, Rod Marinelli without doubt deserved it. The Lions, while lacking in talent, also lacked in preparation. When it was obvious that their offense should’ve been just throwing jump balls to Calvin Johnson, Marinelli took about 10 weeks more to realize it and then had the change made.

Check out the rest of the article to find out all the other recent firings in the NFL.

Michael Young Wants Trade From Texas Rangers

January 12, 2009 by Travis L. Brown · Leave a Comment

While America looks on the Yankees spending money left and right on the top two free agent pitchers and one of the top hitting free agents in Mark Texiera, Texas Ranger fans have nothing new to look forward too.

Michael Young

Michael Young

Now the Texas Rangers say their shortstop of the future is Elvis Andrus, moving five time All-Star and former All-Star MVP Michael Young to third base. Young says the Texas Rangers won’t hear his concerns, and made this announcement without consulting him, and now wants to be moved to a team that wants him at short stop.

Jon Daniels believes this will all be worked out and Michael Young will be with the Rangers in 2009… at third base.

While Michael Young is the face of the franchise and unofficial team captain, if Jon Daniels won’t let him state his case and keeps him with the team, will the Texas Ranger’s clubhouse face another Mark Texiera episode?

Also, while other teams are out at least trying to talk to free agents, what have the Rangers been doing? Trading Gerald Laird for two minor league prospects that reportedly won’t even get an invite to spring training.

With less than five weeks until pitchers and catchers report, do the Rangers have time to make an impact before the start of the 2009 season?
