Dallas Cowboys Update: Jones May Finally See the Light
As the Super Bowl betting approaches, the Dallas Cowboys are once again on the outside looking in as the team did not make the playoffs this year. In past off-seasons, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones would indicate that the team had no plans on making major changes, even though changes were desperately needed. The Cowboys have needed to attend to its offensive line and defensive secondary for three years now, but Jones had refused to act. All of that may be changing if Jones remains true to his recent statements.
The price per head sports experts were wondering which area of the team that Jones would address first and it looks like it will be the defensive secondary. The Cowboys became infamous for giving up long plays to the opposing offense with the run and the pass. But the biggest offenders were the players in the defensive secondary. Jerry Jones has vowed that Cowboys’ fans will see several new faces in the Cowboys’ defensive secondary when training camp opens for the 2012 season. Jones did not comment on the offensive line or indicate when changes would be made to that unit.
The pay per head sports experts have been projecting for weeks now that the Cowboys will be taking a top-tier quarterback in the 2012 draft. Many of the experts have been suggesting a second or third-round pick, while others have gone so far as to say that the Cowboys will use its first pick to take Tony Romo’s replacement. Jerry Jones was asked about the possibility of the Cowboys choosing a quarterback in this draft and he indicated that the team was happy with starter Tony Romo and backup Stephen McGee. No changes are expected at the quarterback position for the 2012 season.
A sportsbook review of the Cowboys’ past activity in free agency shows a team that has either been hesitant to sign the big names or has lost out to other teams. This off-season, the Cowboys fully intend to be active in the free agent market to get the players it needs to compete in 2012. Jerry Jones was asked about the team’s potential activity in free agency and he said that the team had plenty of room under the salary cap and it was going to use that room to grab good free agents. Jones would not elaborate on which free agents the Cowboys were keeping an eye on, but he did say that the fans can expect activity this year to strengthen the team.
In a move that Dallas Cowboys’ fans would only describe as a betonline scam, CNBC released a list of the top 10 cheerleading squads in the NFL and the Cowboys’ cheerleaders were not the top group. The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are one of the more famous groups of cheerleaders in the world thanks to an active marketing campaign that dates back to the 1970s. But when the squads were placed side-by-side and evaluated using categories such as presentation, community involvement and ability to get the fans involved in the game, the New England Patriots’ cheerleaders were ranked number one and the Cowboys’ cheerleaders were ranked number two. It is just another way in which the Dallas organization has dropped a notch or two in the past few years.
