Nasty Nestor Aparicio Attacks Gordon Keith

January 30, 2009 by

This morning on Radio Row at Super Bowl 43 in Tampa, “Nasty Nestor” Aparicio, a controversial Baltimore radio host attacked Gordon Keith. The incident is the latest in an on-going feud between Nasty Nestor and the Ticket.

We also have the video of the Gordon Keith fight. The video comes from the  Ticket’s live webcam.

Apparently, Gordon Keith went over to Nasty Nestor Aparicio with a wireless microphone to attempt to bury the hatchet between the two parties, when Nasty Nestor became angry, grabbed Gordon Keith around the throat and attempted to strangle him. The two were then separated and the police were called.

This is not the first incident between Nasty Nestor and the Ticket. In 2008, at the Super Bowl coverage, Corby Davidson went to Nasty Nestor to make peace. Nestor Aparicio began swearing at Corby Davidson and accused him of having a hidden mic, to which Corby responded, “I swear to the good Lord I do not have a microphone.” Nasty Nestor then allegedly called Corby a “(Explitive)-ing Jew.”

What’s important to remember is that Corby Davidson is not Jewish. Apparently Nasty Nestor had a Mel Gibson moment.

In the latest incident, Gordon Keith did have a microphone, but it is clear from the audio that he was not trying to provoke Nasty Nestor. Keith is now considering whether or not to file charges against Nasty Nestor. Anyone who was recording the live webcast of the incident, which was broadcast on the Ticket’s webcam, is encouraged to contact the Ticket immediately.

According to the detective who interviewed both Gordon Keith and Nestor Aparicio, Nasty Nestor was swearing and yelling while talking to police.

Nasty Nestor is no stranger to controversy. In addition to his alleged anti-semitic comments, Nestor Arapicio has written complaining about the homeless, which garnered a huge amount of controversy in May of 2008, and led a walk-out from a Baltimore Orioles game, which caused the Orioles to deny Nasty Nestor media credentials the next season, after which Nestor threw another tantrum. Let’s rue the day free poker sees Nestor’s wrath.

Update

Gordon Keith has not said anything more regarding the incident, but he did post about it on his blog.

    First of all, people need to get their stories straight. I write a media column for local sports weekly here in Baltimore. Last year, I investigated this whole Nasty Nestor vs. the Ticket controversy especially when the anti-semitic remarks were brought up. Believe me, being Jewish myself I was quite interested in who said what. Also, there were a number of people in the Baltimore media and who work for some of the local sports teams who were foaming at the mouth to see Nestor get boiled in oil over this. Well to make a long story short, Nestor never called anyone a f*** Jew. I communicated with Corby Davidson and David Keith and they really didn’t want to talk about it. I remember asking Corby whether he was going to follow through on a threatened lawsuit to which he replied “no, we just said that to scare him.”
    Trust me, these two guys have been harassing and goading Nestor into a confrontation for years at the Super Bowl. He has done everything legally possible to keep them away but still insist on coming up to him with a microphone which is just being used to make a fool of him on the air. Don’t believe me, check out Nasty Nestor’s Wiki page and see the childish, imbecillic malarkey that these infantiles tried to put on the page. Also, about the anti-semitic thing,as part of last year’s confrontation, Corby implied that he was Jewish, to which Nestor replied you’re no f**** Jew. Again, this is a lot different than attacking someone over their religion with such an epithet. I know Nestor through the business. He is not my best friend or best buddy. But I can tell you he is not anti-semitic. He’s dated a Jewish girl for 7 years, a majority of his sponsors are Jewish and he has done fundraising and promotions with the Jewish community. This is true. What else is true is that Corby “the snake” and his running buddy are just a couple of cheap Howard Stern wannabees and if the Ticket was any kind of reputable media outlet they off these two clowns before somebody really gets hurt. Have a nice day.

  12. J.R. on January 30th, 2009 2:43 pm

    No, YOU need to get YOUR story straight, Barry. There were hundreds (possibly thousands) of people watching Gordon Keith (not David Keith) when Nestor decided to assault him this morning. He did it on a webcam. And there’s live audio. It was very clear that the Ticket guys knew there might be a verbal confrontation of some kind, but it’s also very clear that Gordon didn’t say anything inflammatory or insulting. He was just trying to bury the hatchet, as multiple sources have already reported.

    Maybe you should make sure you have your story straight before you tell others to do the same. Of course, maybe you’re not really in the Baltimore media and you’re just trying to bail out Nestor because you’re his friend. Or a fan. Either way, Nestor made an idiot out of himself in the most public way possible. Real bright guy.

    Mr. Silverman, does The Ticket’s verbal goading of Nestor give him the right to physically attack one of their crew? By “off these two clowns” do you mean kill them”? Are you threatening more violence when you write, “before somebody really gets hurt”?

    So you have proof that The Ticket was responsible for the wiki edits? Sounds like you are the one who needs to get the story straight.

    Yes Barry it would make good sense to get rid of a marconi winner because he upset a d-bag who can’t even get his family to listen to him on the air. Nester brought all this upon himself by acting like a little bi*ch 10 years ago instead of rolling with it. He should be thankful, no body would even know who he was if it were not for the ticket.

  24. dfwsportsfan on January 30th, 2009 3:03 pm

    Barry,

    I appreciate you posting with a Baltimore perspective, but there’s a few points you’ve made that I don’t agree with:

    1) Your “investigation” of the alleged anti-Semetic remarks seems to entail asking the Ticket principals for a comment, getting none, then taking Aparicio’s version as gospel. That gives your opinion just about as much weight as any of us. The truth is that the only two people who know what was actually said are Corby Davidson and Nestor Aparicio. Since neither one is backing down from their version, I guess it comes down to who you’re inclined to believe. Your protestations to the contrary, it’s pretty obvious where your biases lie on that score.

    Also, it doesn’t reflect well on the thoroughness of your “investigation” when you’re confusing Gordon Keith (who wasn’t even involved in the anti-Semetism flap) with the guy from U-571.

    2) I’m pretty sure that the defacement of Nestor’s Wikipedia page is being done by Ticket listeners, and it’s laughable for you to imply that Gordon Keith and Corby Davidson are doing this on their own time. For that matter the Ticket listeners deface Gordon Keith’s Wikipedia page as well.

    3) I know you’d like us to believe that Nestor was somehow the victim in all this. Obviously it takes two to tango, and I will admit that the Ticket has picked at the scab over the years. But anyone who listened to today’s audio knows that Aparicio is a world class A-hole who bears the lion’s share of responsibility for this feud continuing. Gordon Keith didn’t say one inflammatory thing today to set him off. All he said was that he wanted to bury the hachet, and he even started by complimenting Nestor on a good question at the Bruce Springsteen press conference (not in a sarcastic way), at which point he was apparently assaulted.

    I find your description of the feud as Nestor being “harrassed and goaded” into a confrontation to be pretty rich considering the fact that just about any interaction with the Ticket on his part over the past decade (many of which I’ve heard on the air) has included some combination of profanity, shoving, obscene gestures, etc… then complaints to the NFL about how he’s the wounded party. Well Nestor’s not the wounded party. He’s the primary catalyst, and if he would ever stop acting like a 10 year old the Super Bowl would be much less tense.

    If you actually get a chance to listen to today’s tape I think you’ll see my point.

    @barry silverman, I gotta say watching Nestor self destruct year after year is pure entertainment. You say that they goad him every year but you should check your facts and see how it started.
    Nestor is a no talent, cocky for no reason spare wannabe. But if you want facts, here you go….FACT: Nannie Nestor is a ratings killer in his own market. FACT: the only reason he has his current gig is because he couldn’t get a job in this business so he used Daddy’s money to start his own. What’s he gonna do? Fire himself?
    Here is some more facts as you bag on the Ticket. FACT: 1310 AM KTCK is the highest rated station in the Southwest. Nestor isn’t even in the top 5 in his own format in his own market (sports) FACT: The Ticket have multiple Marconi nominations and has won station of the year.

    Ironic that you make the reference that:

    Reputable? Whatever they are doing seems to work. How is WNST doing these days?

    Even funnier you say “before somebody gets hurt” when it Nannie that was committing an assault. Or was that meant to be a threat from a Nestor sympathizer?

    The Ticket is a very reputable station. Obviously, you know next to nothing about the sports radio and the way this station and its listeners operate. The station is like a big clubhouse and the listeners are part of the club. They talk sports and all that that implies. The station is a huge hit in the market place and has many imitators.

    Nester has had numerous run-ins with the guys from The Ticket because he thinks they are being serious, which couldn’t be further from the truth. These guys are all just having a good time hanging out. Maybe you should try listening on line some time and you might actually understand. Although being from the east coast, I doubt it.

    You people are pathetic. Nobody yet has said how it all started 10 years ago or who was at fault. I’m sure Corby “the snake”- his real nickname- will tell you the honest to goodness truth. And as far as “thousands” of people who saw this confrontation today, please! “Thousands????” Okay,go to Nestor’s Wiki page and look at the history of posts. It’s all Corby, all the time. Of course, it’s somebody using his name. Probably Gordon Keith, Brian Keith or Keith Richard. But just for the record, what’s a “Marconi” winner doing wasting their time with a nobody like Nestor. It’s not like anybody outside of a 10 mile square area even knows who he is. And why the microphone? Must be a slow day for The Ticket on Radio Row. It’s only the Super Bowl. Oh, no it can’t be the Super Bowl, there’s no team from Arlington playing, aw shucks. I hope your home boys appreciate you standing up for them, regardless of how uninformed you are. The only thing more pathetic is me wasting my time trying to discuss this foolishness. Happy trails y’all.

  38. J.R. on January 30th, 2009 5:05 pm

    @barry silverman,

    1. The idea that thousands of people witnessed the confrontation was speculative. Since you didn’t bother reading the post in its entirety earlier, I’ll quote it again: “…hundreds (possibly thousands)…”
    2. The idea that thousands of people witnessed the confrontation isn’t a stretch. I know that number sounds pretty incredible when you’re talking about the Baltimore media market… but the DFW metroplex is one of the biggest media markets in the country, and The Ticket is one of the most popular stations in that market.
    3. I just checked the last 500 revisions on the revision history for Nestor Aparicio’s wiki page, as you suggested. “Corby” isn’t on there once, dating all the way back to March 26, 2007. If you’re going to lie (or “creatively reinterpret the truth,” if that helps you feel better about it), you should do it about something that’s harder to dispute.
    4. Why exactly did you put the word Marconi in quotation marks? That’s the name of the award. It’s pretty well-known among real media folks, considering that it’s the premier award for radio. You’ve heard of the Academy Awards, right? The Emmys? It’s sorta like that.

    Who’s the uninformed one, exactly?

Gordon is a funny dude and has been walking around radio row with a wireless microphone and commenting on the scene for years.  I guess they’ve been making fun of Nestor for years and were trying to goad him into an argument.  Nestor said after four times today, he pushed Gordon away and he backed down like a “bitch”.  Something tells me the truth is somewhere in between. @Michael Owen,

    First – I agree, Nasty is a jerk… I know him well. Second – Barry Silverman is inaccurate, a common situation for him to be in – he clearly knows nothing about The Ticket, and – for a supposed writer – can’t even write a simple paragraph well. Third – Michael Owen is making gratuitous assertions – for those from Dallas, that means his comments are unfounded. Nasty, for all of his issues, is s a self made person who started a radio station with nothing and has developed a strong following – with no money from ‘daddy’, as Owen asserts. The Ticket is a cookie cutter sports station, like those found in most major markets. They are most closely modeled after WIP in Philadelphia. The Ticket is does well and is owned and funded by a major broadcasting company. It would be interesting to see The Ticket’s on air talent start and run a radio station profitably. Bottom line – Gordon Keith and his crew do bait callers and some interview subjects. Do you really believe they planned a sincere, positive exchange by approaching Nestor?… Please. That, however, is no excuse for a physical attack… although it was humorous to see. Over the years, Nestor has verbally attacked and taken many people to task on air – he should be able to take some of his own medicine. Winner by decision – The Ticket.

    Since I am a Ticket listener I am obviously stupid but I Googled you, to read your sports columns and you are either a real estate agent, a Judge, a PhD on the faculty of Wharton School of Business, a complete fake or your writing has about the same audience as it appears Nester’s does. People make that mistake all the time. I’m still not sure why you would defend this obvious d-bag. The guys at the Ticket can’t even remember what started this soooooo long ago, yet “nasty nester” (the name says it all. Who freakin’ calls themself that unless they want to get pounded by “nasty nate” from Half Baked), still has so much animosity. I mean what this guy does, looks, and acts just paints a big ass target on his back for the guys at the Ticket. This is what guys do. I’m sure you have been guilty of simply making fun of someone. Knowing that over the years Corby, Norm, Gordon, and others at the Ticket have tried to extend an olive branch to the guy and the dude just snaps. Seriously, Norm for cryin’ out load. @Jay Carson,

    Yo, Jay. The Ticket WAS founded from scratch by on-air talent. Afternoon host Mike Rhyner started the whole station. It was a hit & subsequently bought by bigger entities later. It is not patterned after WIP – The Ticket actually started the whole “guy talk” genre. Others have followed.

    So, as Coach Gundy would say: Get your FACTS straight! Makes me wanna puke.

  52. Tom on January 30th, 2009 8:59 pm

    @barry silverman, If you really investigated this situation, you would know that The Ticket had nothing to do with Nesters Wiki page. As you should know, anyone can contribute info to Wiki and alter it’s contents. What The Ticket’s listeners do is beyond the control of the station. I listened to the Davidson incident and the Gordon Keith incident and neither of them were “provoking” him. They both went over to sincerely try to apologize for past “differences” and extend the proverbial olive branch. The guy obviously has anger managment problems and is out of control. It’s probably a good thing that he has his handlers to bail him out of his little hissy fits. The latest event was caught on audio AND video. I really hope that Gordon follows through with this and files assault charges on this little punk. This guy is a clown and it’s surprising that you would try to take up for him. Whether or not he is anti- Jewish is immaterial. He is an out of control primadonna; and this guy does not have the right to put his hands on another person unless he is being physically threatened. People need to quit covering for this jerk. And as far as Davidson and Keith being Howard Stern wannabees…..not so much. They give Stern a huge amount of credit for the changes he pioneered in the way radio is done; but wannabees, not at all. Please review the audio/video and see if you still feel the same way. I think that if you are open minded, you will find it hard to defend this …..guy.

    @barry silverman,
    Mr. Silverman,

    I was going to give “Nasty” the benifit of the doubt. That was until I read your sorry excuse probaly composed by Mr. Nester himself.

    Its people like you who make excuses for idiots like Nester that keeps radio fun. Keep it up with your near to nothing market share. You’ve created a bigger storm by messing with the P1. Good luck.

    @Mr. Raven, Got a good point there. Being a Cowboy fan you guy’s did whip up on us this year. Kudo’s. That being said, I would much rather have the 5 Super Bowls, much better looking women, and you can keep Nasty. Oh, by the way Nasty pretty much descibes 80% of your ladies

    At about 2:00 this afternoon, just after I had finished a radio segment for WNST in Baltimore back at my Tampa hotel, Sports Network MLB editor Chris Ruddick texted me to see if I had heard anything about the fight that occurred on “Radio Row” this morning. Though I was apparently mere feet from Radio Row when the incident occurred, I knew absolutely nothing about it, and pressed for any details Ruddick had.

    Strangely enough, the incident involved WNST owner and sometimes-radio personality Nestor Aparicio, who reportedly choked Dallas radio personality Gordon Keith in what we’ll hope is the culmination of an ongoing battle between the two.

    The police were called, and a source at WNST told me that Aparicio was charged with battery, though not arrested.

    Not real sure what the feud is all about, but I can tell you that mere minutes before the incident reportedly took place, at 8:45am, I was talking to Aparicio on the shuttle ride that departed at 8:30am from our hotel to the Super Bowl XLIII media center. Aparicio told me that he and his wife went to see The Eagles at the St. Pete Forum last night, and he told me he was tired after staying up too late after the show. Perhaps he encountered Keith before his morning Starbucks kicked in.

    Bizarre.

    @Steve Bisciotti, We are honored that the owner of the Ravens has enough time on his hands, the day before the Super Bowl, to skip the parties and hype so he can log into a chatroom and comment on about Nasty. I am sure your PR department suggested this would be a great move. Wow, being an owner must be great…. I am guessing your story is as fake as your identity

    @Barry – More outstanding homework.
    “Oh, no it can’t be the Super Bowl, there’s no team from Arlington playing, aw shucks.”
    The Cowboys are in Irving – they move to Arlington next year.

    Barry Silverman and Nasty Nestor ARE IN FACT friends.

    gordo, you are loved but at what point do you not slap this punk around?

  66. Jeff on February 2nd, 2009 8:23 am

    Calling Nestor Aparicio “controversial” is a compliment to him. The truth is, Nestor is barely a blip on anyone’s radar in Baltimore. His station is at 1570 AM. Do the numbers go any higher on the radio dial? His station’s ratings barely register on the Arbitrons and he has very few supporters. He’s an arrogant, pompous ass.

    Having said all of that, if Gordo really wanted to “bury the hatchet”, why do it with a microphone in hand and on Radio Row at the Super Bowl? Why not send him a handwritten letter, call him in June, or have a Candy-Gram delivered? It seems very provocative to confront Aparicio in this way given their history. Maybe this was all scripted like professional wrestling to attempt to get Nestor’s station some ratings.

    @BandS Rule,

    What????
    1. I’m pretty sure that everything you wrote made no sense, but it’s hard to tell due to your misuse of punctuation.

    2. How can you possibly bring RACE into this? It’s just not called for in this situation. (Oh, by the way, no need to tell us that you are African American or Mexican, we can tell Buddy, we can tell.)

    3. Ben and Skin are greatness, but they will never rule Dallas radio until they are re-hired by THE TICKET!

  70. pat the p-1 on February 27th, 2009 4:05 pm

    Come on P-1′s,

    I am as big a Ticket fan as anyone but let’s back off the claims re. how Hollywood “invented” the “guy talk” format. The Hardline and Musers are essentially “Howard Stern Sports”, and Stern was doing the “guy talk” thing a LONG time before the Ticket ever hit the air.
