Signs of The Force: Dallas Cowboys beat Atlanta Falcons 37-21

Tony Romo- Calling a Play or Picking a Victim?

It’s not often the Dallas Cowboys come out and physically dominate a team. At least not recently.

But that’s what happened Sunday at the Death Star, as the ‘Boys beat and beat up the Atlanta Falcons, posting an impressive 37-21 win.

After a bye week in which it seemed that the Cowboys were forgotten by everyone around the NFL, this win is exactly what this team needed to make a statement to the rest of the league that yes, we are still here. We are one of the better teams in this conference and you have to bring your A-game to beat us.

Much more after the jump.

miles-austin-dallas-cowboysMiles Austin is quickly becoming one of the more dangerous threats in the NFL. Six catches, 171 yards and two TD’s today In a two game stretch, Austin has caught 16 passes for a total of 421 yards and four TD’s. It’s hard to believe that he only had five catches through the first four games.

If there was any question who Tony Romo’s primary threat is on offense before this game, there is absolutely none now. Tony Romo stared down Miles Austin today more than a dieting woman stares down Oatmeal Creme Pies.

Bob Sturm of 1310 The Ticket and InsideCorner is famous for calling Tony Romo a Jedi. He’s taken a bit of heat for that the past couple of weeks, but Tony certainly showed signs of The Force today. The touchdown pass at the end of the first half was the Romo of 2007 – making plays that only he can. Those are the plays this team needs and that we, as fans, expect to see. They’ve been strangely absent over the past few games and season or two.

Besides that particular play, the Jedi was sharp the whole game. He did miss a couple of passes, both to Roy Williams oddly, but all in all, that was a fantastic game for Mr. Romo. For the Dallas Cowboys to go anywhere, Tony has to bury his demons in the month of December and have games like today’s down the stretch.

On the rest of the offensive side, the line for the Dallas Cowboys certainly played well in pass protection. As far as the running game goes, the stats aren’t pretty. Felix Jones had a nice game with a limited amount of carries, but Marion Barber didn’t break too many gains more than a yard or two. Tashard Choice was almost nonexistent. He has to touch the ball more than once.

Jay Ratliff Dallas CowboysAs I watched the defense fly around Matt Ryan today, I was trying to remember the last time the defense played better. Today was easily the best game that unit has played this year, and easily one of the best including last year too. Everyone from the line to the secondary was around the ball.

Matt Ryan looked flustered all game, especially towards the end. Ryan is a great quarterback, and one of the better ones in the NFL, but today he looked like a second-year player.

If there’s one jersey I want, there’s no contest: Keith Brooking. Talk about fired up. I want to put some chin straps on

Great job by the Dallas Cowboys defense to force those turnovers with some hard hits and tight coverage. The Atlanta Falcons do have a fine offense. Roddy White and Michael Turner are very talented skill position players, but holding the Falcons under 300 yards should be seen as a nice accomplishment.

The Allen Rossum Experience sure didn’t last long, but it didn’t matter as the Dallas Cowboys finally ran a punt back for a TD. It seems like it’s been since the Clinton administration since a punt was ran back for the Cowboys, but Crayton returned today’s in seemingly record time.

Still, there are areas that Wade could point to as areas for improvement. There were still too many penalties today, many of which extended Atlanta Falcons drives or killed Dallas Cowboys drives. The last touchdown that Atlanta scored was also embarrassing. That should never happen.

But today is a happy day in Dallas. Next week could easily see the Dallas Cowboys in first place in the NFC East.

Just let that sit for awhile.

If only Romo could be consistent all the time and the cornerbacks take care of the passing. The Cowboys would be #1 in defense and offense. We already got the running game. And our defense lineman are good at stopping the run.Now i hate to say these but Crayton needs to start over Williams.Crayton been here longer he deserves it.Crayton and Miles gio miles and miles with the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl. How about that.
