Dallas Cowboys News: Winning in Preseason Has a Price
August 11, 2010 by Matt Lawrence · Leave a Comment
Dallas Cowboys fans are betting that their team can go all the way to winning Super Bowl XLV this season, and to prove their point the team is doing what it can to win any game it plays. But the Cowboys have learned that betting on NFL preseason games is not a wise choice, and their aggressive stance towards the recent Hall of Fame game has had a significant impact on the Cowboys season.
The Cowboys beat the Cincinnati Bengals 16-7 in the opening preseason game of the year in Canton, Ohio. But the Cowboys lost one of their starting tight ends for the season in the process. Second-year tight end John Phillips tore his ACL in the Hall of Fame game, and now he is out for the season. The NCAA football betting world was familiar with Phillips and he could have contributed to the Cowboys run to the Super Bowl this season.
As if that was not bad enough, both of the replacement tight ends that came in after Phillips in the Hall of Fame game were also injured. Kevin Brock sprained his ankle, and Scott Sicko left the game with a concussion. Both players are expected to miss the rest of the preseason and may be doubtful for NFL week 1 betting as well.
The Cowboys are looking to bring in more tight ends to help the team finish the preseason, and to find a replacement for Phillips when the bell rings on week 1. The only healthy tight end on the Cowboys roster right now is starter Jason Witten. The second string tight end Martellus Bennett is also down with a sprained ankle.
Also on the Dallas Cowboys injury front is the injury of starting defensive end Marcus Spears. Spears sprained his knee and he is expected to be out four to six weeks. That means he will miss the rest of the preseason and he is doubtful to start in the first game of the regular season as well.
Dallas Cowboys running back, and key member of the Dallas Super Bowl teams of the 1990’s, Emmitt Smith was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame over the weekend. Smith holds the current record for most rushing yards in a career, and he was inducted with the wide receiver who holds the career receiving yardage record, Jerry Rice.
The Cowboys are treating their training camp like a traveling circus this season as they are splitting time between three locations. The team will practice in Oxnard, California, their facility in Valley Ranch, Arlington, Texas and San Antonio, Texas in the course of just under two weeks. Included in that schedule will be their second preseason game as well. The training staff is keeping the team organized and making sure everything gets where it needs to go, but it will be interesting to see if the whirlwind approach to a mobile training camp will have a negative effect on the team when the season starts.
Preseason: Dallas Cowboys vs Oakland Raiders

The Dallas Cowboys will face the Oakland Raiders in their 2nd preseason game of 5 for the 2010 NFL season. The Cowboys defense looked great in week 0 of the 2010 preseason, however the offense was a different story. The Cowboys offensive starters moved the ball down the goal line, however 3 straight passing plays on the goal line lead to a field goal, thanks a lot offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. The Cowboys also suffered a key personel injury, losing TE John Phillips for the season to an ACL tear. Now we will find out just what Marty B is made out, hopefully he has more game than he showed last season.
The Cowboys face a Raiders team that has a familiar face at quarterback in Jason Campbell, the Raiders decided to cut ties with former first round draft pick Jamarcus Russell. Recently the Raiders have drafted players because of there measurables instead of their football iq, something that the Cowboys have finally stopped doing.
I wouldn’t expect to see the starters play anymore than they did against the Bengals, and hopefully we can get through this week without anymore injuries. The Cowboys vs Raiders TV Channel, Tickets, Parking, Time, Location and more are listed below:

Cowboys Set Sights On Super Bowl In 2010-11
August 3, 2010 by Guest Contributor · 1 Comment
One year ago the Dallas Cowboys finally set the record straight on whether or not they had the talent, depth, and nerves to play December football and in to January when the playoffs got underway. A couple of massive wins over the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles- the first which clinched the division and home field advantage in the Wild Card round, the second which was the actual Wild Card contest- were proof that quarterback Tony Romo and company could handle the pressure when it came down to it, which makes the outlook for the future that much brighter. Now comes the next step, which head coach Wade Phillips and his staff have declared as being football’s ultimate goal, to win the Super Bowl and bring the Vince Lombardi trophy to the most luxurious home in the NFL betting league in Cowboys Stadium.
Training camp is already underway for the 2010-11 sports betting season, as the Cowboys go through practices every day until opening their preseason this upcoming Sunday at Canton against the Cincinnati Bengals in the annual Hall of Fame game. Taking part in this contest means that Dallas will have five preseason dates this year, which appears to be fine for Phillips and his staff given the emphasis on attention to detail that the team will focus on this year. While the Cowboys’ draft picks have been working with the coaching staff for a couple of weeks, now is the time for the veterans to get their reps in, with the hope being to get through the next month without any of the starters suffering major injuries. The good thing for Dallas is that it will welcome just one new player to the mix from free agency in tackle Alex Barron, which should result in a continuity that will help this team be prepared.
Heading in to this football betting week, players on both the Cowboys and Bengals are getting amped up at the opportunity to participate in a full contact preseason game again, and this will be the first chance for fans and scouts to get a look at who has the edge to win the position battles that have been contested since the opening of camp. In Dallas, the biggest preseason battle will be for which of the reserves will replace the heavy-hitting Ken Hamlin at the safety spot after the veteran safety was not retained this summer. Converted cornerback Alan Ball has worked with the first team defense in every practice and looks to have the early edge to start, but reserve Mike Hamlin will push him. Meanwhile the offensive line will get back to work with a new left tackle for the first time in 12 years after Flozell Adams was let go by the organization, a move the team may regret of holdover Doug Free and Barron aren’t able to raise their game to another level. The Cowboys Bengals betting game will be the first look players have at this year’s NFL rosters on the field, so let the fun begin.
Dallas Cowboys Update

The sports betting world is dying to find out how wide receiver Dez Bryant, the Cowboys’ first round pick and 24th overall, will affect the Cowboys defense when the 2010 season kicks off. But before Bryant can put the NCAA football betting world behind him and become a factor in NFL betting, he needs a contract.
The Cowboys and Bryant have said all along that they both hope the contract negotiation process is quick and simple, but so far there has been no indication of how things have been going. The talks just started this week, and Bryant still hopes to be under contract when the Cowboys open training camp later this month.
There has also been discussion in Cowboys camp about how to play Dez Bryant on special teams. All rookie wide receivers in the NFL do their time on special teams. Some, like Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears, make their name in special teams and then move over to playing on the first team offense. Bryant might be on the fast path to being a first-team wide receiver, but it looks like his fast path will go through returning punts in the special teams before he can make his mark as a receiver.
The Cowboys have already signed many of their 2010 draft picks, and are ready to get the rest under contract. The most recent player that will be betting on NFL preseason playing time to get him a roster spot is fourth-round pick, defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. However, it could be some time before Owusu-Ansah joins the team at training camp as he is still recovering from summer shoulder surgery.
Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach has waved his hand over the 2010 team and said it is good. Now Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith has also chimed in on the Cowboys’ chances at getting to Super Bowl XLV, and the all-time rushing leader thinks the Cowboys have what it takes to go all the way. Smith was quoted as saying that this Cowboys team reminds him of the 1991-1992 team that won the Super Bowl.
The NFL supplemental draft was held last week, and the Cowboys relented their seventh round pick in the 2011 NFL draft by choosing defensive end Josh Bent-Price in the supplemental draft. Bent-Price is adept at getting into the opposing backfield, and he will be competing for a roster spot in this year’s Cowboys training camp.
The Dallas Cowboys had a franchise moment at the end of the regular season in 2009, and it almost went unnoticed. When the Cowboys won their last three regular season games in the 2009 season, it pushed the franchise’s all-time winning percentage to .580. That mark is just a tick above the Dolphins’ all-time winning percentage at .579. So now the Cowboys feel they are protecting the legacy of their franchise and fighting for the right to play a Super Bowl in their own stadium this season.

Cowboys Aim For Bigger Goals In 2010
July 6, 2010 by Guest Contributor · Leave a Comment
While Cowboys fans may take solace in the fact that their team finally won a playoff game, the fact remains that head coach Wade Phillips and company once again fell short of their ultimate goal, which is making it to the Super Bowl. A couple of wins over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles that helped Dallas earn the division title and advance to the second round after winning at home was the key to Phillips having his contract secured for a couple of more betting years in “Jerryworld”, but with the window closing it may not be long before owner Jerry Jones decides that change is required once more.
That’s not to say that Phillips didn’t do a good job as NFL betting head coach a year ago, also taking over as defensive coordinator for the better part of the season, a big part of the Cowboys’ notable success. The strong finished was proof that this group was capable of succeeding, and that with time Phillips could make the defense even better. Jason Garrett had one of his best season’s as the offensive play caller, helping quarterback Tony Romo lower his interceptions total, while doing an excellent job dividing the carries between running backs Marion Barber and Felix Jones. That tandem could be even better in 2010 if they can stay healthy, and there is insurance in third-down running back Tashard Choice, who has performed well in limited snaps.
Garrett’s biggest tasks for this season will include getting consistent play from an offensive line that lost long time left tackle Flozell Adams, who may have been undervalued in Dallas, and getting more out of wide receiver Roy Williams. Jones invested a lot of money, and a lot of draft pick value when he made the trade with the Detroit Lions to acquire Williams two years ago, but has yet to see much of a return. Williams has become the third receiving option behind emerging talent Miles Austin, and tight end Jason Witten. Jones may have been sending a betting on NFL message by moving up to select wide receiver Dez Bryant in the first round, but it appears as though the hopes still are that Williams will produce.
On the defensive side of the ball, Phillips took over at midseason and it seemed like a completely different team. Now, with a full offseason to work with his players, Phillips could have his men even better prepared. Perhaps the most improved player on the defensive side of the ball last season was Anthony Spencer, who took over on the outside linebacker spot opposite of DeMarcus Ware, and registered eight sacks in his last eight games. Terrence Newman and Mike Jenkins remain the keys in the secondary, and will need to be much better for a defensive unit that added little in the offseason. The same can be said about the entire roster, as offensive tackle Alex Barron was the only significant addition outside of the draft, but time will tell if perhaps Jones should have been more aggressive with no salary cap alike the bet on MLB big spending teams.
Rangers Sale Update
April 19, 2010 by Matt Lawrence · 1 Comment
As of today the sale of the Texas Rangers is on hold because the lenders are not happy with the amount of money they will receive. Another problem that could be making this worse is the rumor that Tom Hicks is trying to walk away with money from the sale of the Texas Rangers. Why am I writing about this? again? because I am really pissed off about this whole situation, we have been lied to repeatedly about when the sale will be final.
First the sale of the Texas Rangers was going to be completed by the beginning of the season, and then it was delayed a bit, but don’t worry it will be done soon. Then the latest deadline was the 19th, today, I heard Nolan say that the lenders haven’t agreed to the deal, which means that the sale won’t be final. There has even been talk that the team will have no choice but to file bankruptcy.
This really sucks because the only people that are suffering from Tom Hicks broke ass business practices are the team and the fans. This offseason could have set the Rangers up to have the season that the team advertised, but instead we have huge holes on out bench at the reserve infield and outfield positions.
Hopefully the lenders will agree to a deal soon, but can you really blame them for wanting their money back. I mean the doucher (Tom Hicks) borrowed the money and it should be repaid, and the team is paying the price because he is a broke ass. If only Mark Cuban could buy the Rangers and the Stars, how awesome would that be. As a warning to all the hockey fans, the Stars sale could be just as ugly…
Dallas Cowboys Report – Holes in the Roster
April 13, 2010 by Guest Contributor · Leave a Comment
The sportsbook experts know where the glaring holes are in the Dallas Cowboys roster, and one of those glaring holes needs to be filled if the Cowboys want any chance of reaching the Super Bowl in 2011.
When the Cowboys released offensive lineman Flozell Adams, sports betting people were not surprised. Adams allowed key sacks against Tony Romo in the last game of the season, and he was an open door in the playoffs.
The release of Adams was done for three reasons, and it can be difficult to really quantify these reasons and put them in any order. The first reason was that he couldn’t block for Romo anymore. Adams was still an effective run blocker, but when Romo dropped back to pass his left side was exposed. The second reason was that the fans wanted it. You could hear the cries for the release of Adams on Dallas talk radio and in the newspapers. The final reason was that more than likely Romo wanted it. Just like the release of Terrell Owens, Romo needed Adams replaced in order to continue his personal quest for a Super Bowl.
The problem for the Cowboys is that Adams had NFL experience, and there is not a lot of good linemen available in free agency this year. That means the problem gets solved in the draft. While the Cowboys may be able to get a better athlete than Adams, they may still have problems on the left side of the line with an inexperienced lineman.
To add to the hole left by the release of safety Ken Hamlin comes word that safety Gerald Sensabaugh is not coming to mandatory training sessions, and he says he will stay away until he gets a long-term deal. Hamlin was released to make room for a drafted replacement, but Sensabaugh not being on the roster is not part of the Cowboys’ plans.
Dallas Cowboy fans may remember the name Cliff Harris. Harris was a safety that played for the Cowboys from 1970 to 1979. With the holes at safety in the Cowboys roster, the team is exploring all possible options. One of those options is the son of Cliff Harris, Matt Harris. He was invited to try out for the Cowboys as part of an open team session for local athletes. The Cowboys are hoping that the NFL safety gene passes from one Harris to another.
Some good news for Cowboys fans and NFLbetting fans is that restricted free agents Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher, and Junior Saivii have all accepted their contract offers and have re-signed with the team. This adds to free agents Corey Proctor and Pat McQuistan who have already signed their free agent tender offers.
The Cowboys have no injuries to report leading in to mandatory team work-outs, they have no franchise player named yet and they are still trying to fill their place-kicker spot before training camp. Online betting sharps know that the newest candidate is former Colts kicker Matt Stover. Unrestricted free agent kicker Shaun Suisham has yet to be offered a contract, and considering his key misses in the playoffs he will probably not be competing for the Dallas kicking job when camp opens.
NFL Super Bowl 2010: Kickoff & Halftime Show

The 2010 NFL Super Bowl will feature the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints squaring off in Miami Florida. The Saints and their “Who Dat” nation (possibly one of the worst slogans ever) have had a great season with Drew Brees at the Helm. You know that if Peyton Manning is healthy the Colts will be in the playoffs. That is why this years superbowl is setting up to be a quarterback duel in Miami, and I for one can’t wait.
Let’s get the important stuff out of the way first before looking at the stats and my prediction.

Cowboys 2010 – 2011 Schedule & Opponents
January 25, 2010 by Matt Lawrence · 50 Comments
The Cowboys Season is over after a heartbreaking loss in Minnesota. Jason Garrett seemed to forget that the Vikings have one of the best Defensive Lines in the NFL when he was making the game plan. Seriously why would you run Barber outside when you have Jones & Choice.
All that aside, now that the 2009 – 2010 Season is over lets look at the opponents that will be on the 2010 – 2011 Dallas Cowboys schedule. I think that everyone will agree that the Cowboys schedule is going to be tough one this season.
