Dallas Cowboys Update: Three New Additions to the Cowboys’ Ring on Honor

August 23, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The Dallas Cowboys have always been proud of its tradition and have revered the players that have helped to establish the Cowboys’ winning tradition. Sports betting Dallas Cowboys’ fans will be honoring three men who are part of that tradition when Drew Pearson, Charles Haley and Larry Allen are added to the Dallas Ring of Honor in Cowboys Stadium.

The last time that three players were inducted together into the Ring of Honor was in 2005 when Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin were inducted together. While Pearson, Haley and Allen don’t have quite the connection that the “Triplets” did, they are still remembered by football betting online Cowboys’ fans as three key players in maintaining the Dallas dominance of the NFL from the mid-1970’s through to the 1990’s.

The Cowboys are starting to get healthy again at running back as Tashard Choice is getting closer to being able to play again and rookie DeMarco Murray has been cleared to play by the Dallas medical staff. Murray was sidelined early in training camp with a pulled hamstring that has now healed enough where he can start taking snaps at practice. Murray joins an uncertain backfield that consists of the previously mentioned Choice and stalwart Felix Jones. NFL analysts know what Jones can do, but Choice is an unproven player and Murray’s rookie status makes him a question mark in the offensive backfield.

After the Cowboys lost their second preseason game to the San Diego Chargers 20-7, head coach Jason Garrett pointed out two areas where the Cowboys need to improve if it wants to win in 2011. The first is in the turnover department. Three times the Cowboys had a drive stalled in the San Diego end of the field with a turnover. But the Cowboys could not get a turnover in return. The head coach points to a lack of discipline and an inability to protect the ball as the reasons for the turnovers.

The other area that Garrett is concerned about is the play of starting quarterback Tony Romo. Even though Romo was part of lockout workouts and has been throwing to his receivers for a couple of months now, he did not look sharp and wound up throwing an interception as one of the Cowboys turnovers. Garrett vows to address the issues and get his team ready for the start of the regular season.

It could be because they have a lack of other choices, but the Cowboys coaching staff is high on one of their NFL picks at cornerback and that is Orlando Scandrick. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has predicted that Scandrick will have a big year this year and show the rest of the league what he is capable of. The Cowboys lost out on signing prized free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha in the off-season, and now they are trying to piece together a defensive secondary that can win games and give the Cowboys a chance to make the playoffs.

Dallas Round-Up – Cowboys Finally Win, Mavs Streaking, Rangers Begin Lee Chase

November 19, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

There was a high pay per head price for tickets to last weekend’s Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito fight, which is probably the best action in Cowboys Stadium yet this season. But the Cowboys finally made a change and ended up with a victory, which is a start. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are off to a fast start, while the Rangers are trying to hold onto their ace, among others.

Dallas Cowboys
NFL betting players were wondering how long it would take Jerry Jones to put Wade Phillips out of his misery, and the writing was on the wall after a 45-7 humiliation at Green Bay. Phillips was out the next day, making offensive coordinator Jason Garrett the interim head coach. Garrett’s first order of business was to institute a dress code and have the players practice in pads. The extra intensity must have worked as the Cowboys came out on fire in a 33-20 win on the road against the New York Giants in a game that wasn’t even that close. Dez Bryant had his first 100-yard game, and the defense forced three turnovers in their best performance in weeks. The talent has always been there, but the Cowboys actually cared this week, and that’s all it takes. They’ll have to bring that same attitude into Week 11, when they welcome an improved Detroit team to Dallas early on Sunday afternoon.

Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks have won seven of their first nine games ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with the Hornets in New Orleans, and the Hornets will have their stingers out after the Mavericks became the first team to beat them. Dallas ended the Hornets’ unbeaten run at eight games with a 98-95 win on Monday night at home, getting 26 points from Jason Terry. That was the third straight game in which Dirk Nowitzki wasn’t the leading scorer, and that bodes well for the Mavericks’ NBA betting odds because we all know Nowitzki can score at will. If this keeps him fresher for the playoffs, the season will be a success. The Mavericks have won four straight going into their Wednesday showdown with New Orleans, then they’ll host Chicago on Friday, head to Atlanta on Saturday, followed by another back-to-back when they welcome Detroit on Tuesday, then travel to Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Texas Rangers
Texas closer Neftali Feliz was named the American League Rookie of the Year after a phenomenal 40-save performance, and the Rangers are officially in offseason mode. The first order of business is to re-sign ace Cliff Lee, who has no shortage of suitors, including the deep-pocketed New York Yankees, who could barely hit Lee in the ALCS. They also are trying to re-sign slugger Vladdy Guerrero, and word is the Rangers are after catcher Victor Martinez to upgrade that position. If they can pull off this trio of signings, look for the Rangers near the top of next year’s betting odds.

Dallas Cowboys Tennis Classic at Cowboys Stadium

Maria Sharapova Cowboys Classic TennisJerry Jones has yet another event to hold at Cowboys Stadium, This time it is tennis and some pretty decent names will be playing in the event. The Cowboys Tennis Classic will have two matches, and the first match will be between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. The second match of the Dallas Cowboys Tennis Classic will feature Andy Roddick vs John Isner, and both of the matches will be the best 2 of 3 sets.

The planned capacity for the event is only 20,000 fans, partly because the tennis ball isn’t big enough to be seen from the nose bleed seats of Cowboys Stadium or you can go with the Cowboys version and call it an intimate seating configuration, either way its 20,000 people.

Super Bowl XLV 2011 – Cowboys Stadium

February 8, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Next year Dallas will play host to the 2011 Super Bowl and I thought we should take a look at 5 things that could make the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium interesting. The only information that we know for sure so far is that the game will be at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on February 6 2011. Nicknames for Cowboys Stadium include the “Death Star” and “Jerry World”. The game will be on the FOX TV Channel and the TV Announcers will be Troy Aikman and Joe Buck.

If the Cowboys do make the Superbowl and are able to pull of a win, will Jerry pick up Wade just like Drew Brees did his son? Probably not, but below you will find some definite possibilities:

Jerry Jones Wade Phillips Super Bowl Drew Brees Super Bowl Holding Baby

5.) The Record for Super Bowl Attendance is currently 103,985 set at Super Bowl XIV in Pasadena, CA.Dallas Cowboys Party Pass SRO

Will Jerry Jones try to break the record? I think he will even though earlier this year he broke the regular season NFL attendance record at the expense of some Cowboys Fans. The Stadium Record is 105,121 set against the New York Giants, so it is a definite possibility to over sell the standing area only tickets (Party Pass) again to set another record.

If you are planning on attending the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium, it is my recommendation to purchase a ticket to an actual seat. This picture from the Dallasnews.com shows how difficult it will be to see from the Party Decks.

4.) Will Martellus Bennett aka MartyBTV aka Jupiters_Crunch make a rap about the Super Bowl and Jerry Jones Money?
I hope he does, here is his I love Captain Crunch Rap. If you didn’t know Martellus is a Tight End for the Dallas Cowboys.

3.) Will former Texas Rangers and current Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks still own any Dallas area professional sports teams? Will He Attend the Super Bowl in the town that hates him?

Undisclosed sources report that Tom Hicks is now broke, and will not be attending the game. Judging by this picture it doesn’t look like he will be owning any teams either. However there is a rumor that Tom Hicks is going to broker a deal between 15 lenders to procure a single Super Bowl Ticket, oh wait that is how he bought all of his sports teams.

2.) What is the Over / Under on FOX filming Jerry Jones picking his nose during the broadcast?

I am setting this line to .5 / -.5 just choose whether you think Jerruh will pick a winner again on TV. Leave you booger decision in the comments section below.

Warren Sapp Mug Shot Mugshot1.) How many current and former NFL players will go to jail during the Super Bowl festivities?

I believe the NFL Network’s own Warrenn Sapp went to jail this year. I am going to set the over / under at 2 here. So let me know if you think more or less than 2 current and former NFL players will go to the slammer in Dallas. I am taking the over.

Cotton Bowl: Oklahoma State vs Ole Miss

December 30, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The 2009-2010 ATT Cotton Bowl will oddly enough not be held at the Cotton Bowl, which kind of makes it the unCotton Bowl, doesn’t it? As a resident of Dallas I have come to realize that what Jerry Jones wants Jerry Jones usually gets, and what he wanted is the Cotton Bowl at Cowboys Stadium.

This year the Oklahoma State Cowboys will square off against the Ole Miss Rebels at Cowboys Stadium in this year’s ATT Cotton Bowl.

Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Oklahoma State Cowboys ended their season 9 – 3 overall and 6 – 2 in the Big 12 conference, which was good enough for 2nd place in the Big 12 South Division. As you can see from their offensive and defensive numbers, this team plays like a Real money poker player. They are up and down, with huge swings from game to game, and were able to win 9 games based on having very good talent on offense. Below are their offense and defense averages:
Cowboys Offense: 30.2 Points Per Game
Cowboys Defense: 21.8 Points Per Game

Ole Miss Rebels
The Ole Miss Rebels finished their season with an 8 – 4 record going 4-4 in the SEC which was good enough for 3rd place in the SEC West Division. Below are their offense and defense averages:
Rebels Offense: 30.3 Points Per Game
Rebels Defense: 18.6 Points Per Game

Both Mississipi and Oklahoma State look pretty evenly matched on offense when you look at the averages, but the Rebel defense gives up about 3 fewer points per game. Vegas has set the point spreads, picking the Ole Miss Rebels by 3. The Over Under for the game is set at 50.5. Neither of the point spread nor the over / under look very appealing.
