Dallas Cowboys News: Cowboys Still Big Business

The online sportsbook experts know that the Dallas Cowboys have always been big business in the state of Texas and throughout the NFL. But with the way the NFL football betting has gone this season, some people had started to wonder if the love for “America’s Team” would start to fade. But the football betting world was not surprised to learn this week that the Cowboys are still America’s richest team as well as being America’s most popular team.

According to numbers recently released, the Cowboys are still the NFL pick for the most profitable franchise based on ticket sales, television revenue and merchandise sales. The Cowboys are now valued at $1.8 billion, which makes them the single most valuable sports franchise in North America. It is estimated that some 32 million viewers tuned in to watch the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving Day, and the Cowboys-Eagles game remains the highest rated Sunday night game of the season.

One of the things that helped increase the value of the franchise was the completion of their new $1.2 billion stadium funded primarily by the team itself. The state-of-the-art facility helped to increase fan attendance by offering an increase in seating capacity, and it helped increase revenue by allowing the Cowboys to raise their ticket prices. The list of the top 20 selling player jerseys in the NFL includes three Dallas Cowboys. Win or lose, the fans love their Dallas Cowboys. Read more

Dallas Cowboys Update: Injuries are Still Plaguing The Cowboys

The betting world is now wondering if Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will actually come back to play the last two games of this season. There have been rumors circulating by those in the NFL betting world that Romo will not be back and that the next move for the Cowboys is to place Romo on the season-ending injured reserve list. Romo broke his collarbone in the week seven game against the New York Giants. While owner Jerry Jones and interim head coach Jason Garrett are not giving any specific details on Romo’s projected return, the feeling around the Cowboys is getting strong that the quarterback will be placed on IR as soon as this week.

In other injury news, the NFL predictions surrounding the return of safety Gerald Sensabaugh and linebacker Sean Lee are looking just as grim. Both are suffering from concussions and both have been unable to pass the tests necessary to clear them for practice this week. The normal procedure is to wait until Friday to test players for the game coming up on Sunday. If Sensabaugh and Lee fail their tests on Friday, then both will miss the game against the Cardinals on Christmas Day. Read more

Week 15: Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins

December 15, 2010 by · 2 Comments

Donavan McNabb Mike ShannahanThe Dallas Cowboys will play the Washington Redskins in NFL Week 15. The Redskins are a mess to say the least. The Redskins Head Coach Mike Shannahan has had trouble getting some of his big name players in line this season. The Redskins have struggled all year, and the distractions that McNabb and Haynesworth created have only made things worse. The Redskins have lost 3 straight, and it could very easily be 4 on Sunday.

The Cowboys on the other hand have been playing a lot better under Jason Garrett‘s more detail oriented system, but the team is still guaranteed a losing record. Does anyone else remember the beginning of the season when we were talking playoffs?

Las Vegas is taking the Cowboys by 6, and that might be a little conservative considering how both of these teams have been playing lately. Look for the Cowboys to come out and make a statement this week. However even if Dallas blows out the Redskins it might not be enough to save Jason Garrett’s job. Jerry has been mysteriously silent about next years coach. You can find the Cowboys vs Redskins TV Channel, Time and TV Announcers below:

Dallas Cowboys Update: Making The Wrong Choice

Dallas Cowboys Update: Making The Wrong Choice

The betting experts can be a fickle bunch, and NFL betting experts are particularly brutal in their assessments. But when you serve up a home run pitch like Cowboys running back Tashard Choice did after the Cowboys loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in week 14, then the NFL predictions are going to weight heavily against you.

The Eagles beat the Cowboys 30-27 in one of the closer NFL scores of the week. But when the game was over, backup running back Tashard Choice was captured on camera getting Michael Vick’s autograph. Choice had waited all season to finally get a chance to play. He had sat on the bench behind Felix Jones and Marion Barber all season long. In one of his chances to shine, Choice lavishes praise on the opposing quarterback by asking for his autograph.

Choice said the autograph was for his three-year-old nephew, and most of the Cowboys players support Choice. But it is the fans that the Dallas players should be worried about, and the fans are not happy. Dallas sports radio lit up the next day with calls to bench or release Choice. Dallas Cowboys fans are already sensitive about not making the playoffs this year. When one of their running backs does the celebrity worship thing with the opposing quarterback, it is not going to go over well in Dallas. Read more

Dallas Cowboys Update: Injured Cowboys Start to Make Their Way Back

Dallas Cowboys Update: Injured Cowboys Start to Make Their Way Back

This NFL betting season has been difficult on the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys could not live up to NFL predictions because of a disorganized coach and injuries. But, right when it is too late and the NFL scores cannot get the Cowboys into the playoffs, some of the injured Cowboys start to make their way back. The Cowboys may be betting favorites for the rest of the NFL season.

On defense the Cowboys will get back cornerback Orlando Scandrick for the upcoming game against the Eagles. Scandrick passed all of his concussion tests and is ready to play this weekend. The Cowboys will also get back linebacker Sean Lee this weekend. Lee has been nursing a sprained shoulder but was able to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. He plans on playing this weekend against the Eagles.

On the offensive side, it looks like quarterback Tony Romo is just about ready to come back to the active roster. The Cowboys still do not have Romo listed on their depth chart, but the quarterback has been throwing and should be available to play in the next week or two.

Wide receiver Dez Bryant is out for the season as he has had surgery on his broken ankle. There was more than just fractured bones in Bryant’s ankle, he also had torn ligaments that needed to be re-attached. Bryant has been fighting injuries all season long, but the most well-known of his injuries was the high ankle sprain that kept him out of the preseason and hampered him noticeably throughout the first few games of the season.

There is some good news for Dez Bryant as he recovers in a hospital bed in Dallas. Because he played on at least 35 percent of the offensive plays, and had 41 catches or more this season, Bryant is eligible for a $1 million bonus. Because he qualified for that bonus, he is now also eligible for a $1.4 million bonus at the end of the 2012 season as well.

Dez Bryant was an important part of the Cowboys punt return team and the offense as well. It looks like interim head coach Jason Garrett will be using two, or possibly three, different players to replace Bryant. On the offense, wide receiver Sam Hurd will try to step in as the number three receiver, taking Bryant’s spot. On punt returns, Garrett had rookie Bryan McCann returning punts in the Indianapolis game immediately after Bryant’s injury. But it may be veteran cornerback Terence Newman who will get the job the rest of the season. Garrett has not indicated if one player or the other will get the punt return job, or if he will platoon the two players.

In what has to be a breath of fresh air to the Cowboys fans, wide receiver Miles Austin has not complained one bit about his lack of production. Austin has recently said that it does not matter to him how many catches he has in a game, just so long as the Cowboys win. Austin has had 11 catches total in the last four Cowboys games, but Dallas has won three out of those four games.

Week 13: Dallas Cowboys at Indianapolis Colts

December 1, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

At the beginning of the season the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys were heralded as Super Bowl Contenders, but as the season winds down the teams are both looking pretty bad. The Cowboys playoff ship sailed away without the team on board long ago, the best the Boys can do is 8 – 8 – 0, and that is if they win every game left in the season. However the Cowboys are 2 – 1 – 0 under Jason Garrett and Tony Romo could come back before the seasons end.

The Colts have been decimated by injuries all season on both Offense and Defense. It has finally got to the point where Peyton Manning can’t cover up the teams weaknesses on offense anymore. At 6 – 5 – 0 Indianapolis is tied with Jacksonville atop the AFC South division, the Colts still have a realistic chance of making the playoffs if they can get things on track again.

Prediction Cowboys at Colts
Even though the game is in Indianapolis, the Cowboys will win by a narrow margin. Peyton Manning looked flustered last week and the Colts defense will be exploited if Peyton and the Colts offense can’t eat up the clock. Look for Cowboys RB Tashard Choice to have increased carries if Marion Barber can’t go on Sunday. You can find the Kickoff TIme, TV Time, TV Channel and TV Announcers below:

Dallas Cowboys Update: Romo Almost Ready to Return

Dallas Cowboys Update: Romo Almost Ready to Return

Many in the betting world have been speculating on whether or not the Dallas Cowboys will allow starting quarterback Tony Romo to play after his injury is healed. Many NFL betting enthusiasts remember that Romo was hurt against the New York Giants on October 25. Since Romo’s injury, the Cowboys have put up some winning NFL scores. But since the Cowboys will not be able to live up to the preseason NFL predictions of making the playoffs and going to the Super Bowl, speculation has been that Romo will not play this season even if he is healthy.

But interim head coach Jason Garrett addressed the issue with the media recently after Romo was seen throwing the ball at practice this week. Garrett has stated that Romo will play when he is healthy, regardless of the Cowboys record. Garrett went on to give an estimate of two to three weeks before Romo’s return but was quick to caution that it is all speculative and an exact time table has not been worked out. Romo is not involved in contact drills at practice, and he is limited in how much he can throw right now. Once the doctors deem Romo to be healthy, Garrett says that the quarterback will play.

The Cowboys lost more than the game last week against the New Orleans Saints. Running back Marion Barber has a strained calf muscle and will not be able to play in the upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts. Barber was starting to establish himself as the starter over his running back counterpart Felix Jones when the injury happened. This gives Tashard Choice the chance to show whether or not he belongs on the 2011 Cowboys roster.

Rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant made headlines in Thursday’s loss to the Saints when he exploded on the sidelines at his coaches, his teammates and anyone else that will listen. Interim head coach Jason Garrett said that Bryant’s display of emotion was a welcome sign from the rookie, and it shows that Bryant deeply cares about winning. The only negative that Garrett pointed out was the potential for opposing defenses to use Bryant’s emotions against him. But Bryant’s teammates came to his defense saying that the outburst was not a problem. Quarterback Jon Kitna even went so far as to say that Bryant was right about what he was saying and that Kitna had indeed made a critical error in a throw to Bryant.

Interim head coach Jason Garrett has showed poise with the media, restored order to the locker room and has produced a winning record in his first three games as Cowboys head coach. All of this makes Garrett a front-runner for the full-time Cowboys head coaching position, but Jerry Jones is still leaving the door open for interviews when the season is over. Names such as Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher continue to come up, but Jones has not said anything about a front-runner or any actual interviews yet.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Cowboys Fans Ready to Host Saints

It is that time of the year that all betting experts look forward to each year. It is the time when the NFL betting focuses on three Thanksgiving Day games that are always interesting and usually have some sort of playoff implications. The Dallas Cowboys have been putting up some good NFL scores lately, and while the Cowboys are not going to live up to preseason NFL predictions, they get the chance to ruin the playoff positioning of the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

Three weeks ago Dallas Cowboys fans would have had a completely different outlook on the annual Thanksgiving Day game. But after the firing of head coach Wade Phillips and a two-game winning streak to mark the start of the Jason Garrett era in Dallas, Cowboys fans are much more optimistic about their chances of winning this game. There is a buzz around Dallas that the Cowboys have the ability to make the playoff hopes a for the defending champion New Orleans Saints a little tougher by beating the Saints on Thanksgiving Day.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo is still throwing in practice, but is not at full speed and is not taking part in contact drills. The Cowboys are still estimating that Romo will be out at least another three weeks. In his place, back-up Jon Kitna has been managing games very well and giving the Cowboys a chance to win just about every game they have played since Romo was injured.

The story behind the newest Cowboys sensation, rookie cornerback Bryan McCann, is an inspiring one. McCann was not part of the combine or the draft. He signed with the Cowboys, but Dallas released him. McCann was picked up by the Ravens, but they never put him on the roster and let him go. Now McCann has been the two-time NFC player of the week for the Cowboys and has returned two interceptions for touchdowns. McCann’s 101-yard interception return for a touchdown is one of the longest such plays in NFL history. He is the first player since the 1950 season to return two interceptions for touchdowns of 90 yards or greater back-to-back. From being cut to NFL fame in just a few weeks is the story of Bryan McCann, and it is one that all aspiring football players should listen to.

It looks like running back Marion Barber may be getting the ball more often in the Dallas offense. Barber is the only running back with a rushing touchdown on the Dallas roster, and he has shown a determination lately that has not been lost on the Cowboys coaching staff. Barber has been extremely hard to tackle lately and he has been able to protect the football. Felix Jones continues to be the number one running back on the depth chart, but fans can expect to see more of Barber and his pounding rushing style in future games for the Dallas Cowboys. Barber could be moved from his third-down status back to being an every down back by this week.

Will Jason Garrett Be The Next Head Coach?

November 23, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Right now Jason Garrett holds on to the title of interim head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, but the NFL betting community is betting that Jerry Jones will make the position permanent when the season is over. The Cowboys are 2-0 under Garrett and posted one of the more impressive NFL scores in his first game against the Giants. The Cowboys may not be able to live up to the preseason NFL predictions of a Super Bowl, but they are showing rapid signs of improvement under Garrett.

Starting quarterback Tony Romo is practicing with the team after suffering a broken collarbone against the Giants in the first New York and Dallas game, but Romo is still weeks away from being able to play. He is involved in non-contact drills right now, and he is just trying to determine how much pain he has when he throws the ball. The estimate is another three weeks before Romo can expect to get back on the field.

In the last two wins for the Cowboys, running back Felix Jones has gained 51 yards in each game. Marion Barber gained 47 yards against the Giants but was not a factor in the win over Detroit. One of the things that Jason Garrett changed was the offensive game plan of the Cowboys. Where Wade Phillips had fallen back to the passing game almost immediately, Garrett is bringing balance to the team’s offense in all situations. The second leading rusher for the Cowboys against the Lions was quarterback Jon Kitna. So Garrett is getting everybody in on the act as far as running the football goes.

One of the problems that the Dallas Cowboys have been experiencing all season long is untimely penalties that cause them to lose games. To remedy the problem, Wade Phillips had brought in a team of referees to help the Cowboys understand when they were committing a foul and how to avoid it. Jason Garrett has continued the practice and, since the middle of October when the referees were first brought to Valley Ranch, the Cowboys have dropped to an average of less than five penalties per game.

In a recent interview with the Dallas Morning News, former head coach Wade Phillips mentioned that his 34-22 record produced the same winning percentage as legendary coach Tom Landry. Phillips also mentioned that he found it difficult to find a head coaching job after he was fired in Buffalo, and he expects it to be difficult finding a new job now. What Phillips left out was that Tom Landry was the Cowboys head coach for 28 years and compiled a 270-178-6 record in that time. It could be Phillips inability to see apples to apples that keeps costing him coaching jobs in the NFL. Phillips has indicated that he would be interested in becoming a defensive coordinator in the NFL again but, at this point, there have been no offers for his services.

Thanksgiving: Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints

November 22, 2010 by · 1 Comment

Cowboys | Dez Bryant - Bryan McCannAfter beating the Giants and Lions the Dallas Cowboys are 2 – 0 under Jason Garrett (aka Red Jesus). I am definitely a Jason Garrett supporter, but his no BS approach to the Cowboys seems to be working (for now). A few more wins and he could actually prove all of his critics (myself included) wrong by becoming the head coach of the Cowboys next season and that idea is actually starting to grow on me.

The Cowboys face the Saints who are in the middle of a tight race in the NFC South (currently tied for 2nd behind Atlanta). Even though the Cowboys season is all but mathematically over, they can still have an effect the NFL playoff landscape. As Cowboys fans we are relegated to watching our team play spoiler for teams still have playoff hopes. The Saints are one of these teams, so make sure and tune in your tv to see if Garrett and the Cowboys can give us something to be thankful for. You can find the tv time, tv channel, kickoff time, tv announcers and tickets for thanksgiving below:
