Dallas Mavericks vs Boston Celtics

The Mavericks will take on the Boston Celtics on Saturday March 20th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Celtics are 42-24 and are holding onto the 4th spot in the Eastern Conference, and just like the Mavericks have already clinched a playoff spot. The Boston Celtics have struggled with injuries since the All Star break and have been an up and down team because of this.

This year we will see if the Celtics core got to old overnight, or if they can rebound from their injuries and make a statement in the playoffs. This game will be the first of several games that will tell us a lot about what to expect from the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs. Dallas Sports: WTF Moment – Super Bowl XLV Ad

This is a video ad that is supposed to be promoting Super Bowl XLV in Dallas. This video features some prominent Dallas Sports Athletes singing Faith Hill’s “This Kiss, This Kiss”. The Dallas Athletes featured in the video include Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Romo, Brett Hull, and more.

Well there really isn’t much else to say except that this is definitely a Dallas Sports WTF moment. Sit back and enjoy this Super Bowl XLV video ad, possibly one of the cheesiest videos I have ever layed eyes upon.

Dallas Mavericks, Stars, Cowboys and Texas Rangers Report

Sportsbook: NBA: Dallas Mavericks (37-21, 4^th in Western Conference)

-       The Dallas Mavericks are scorching hot as they have now rolled off five victories in a row. A big part of their success has been recent addition Brendan Haywood. At the trade deadline, the Mavs traded Josh Howard and Drew Gooden and somehow got back Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson and Brendan Haywood. Howard is now out for the season with a torn ACL and the Mavs are looking like bandits. Brendan Haywood is one of the league’s premier defensive centers and Caron Butler is a guard/forward that can take over games all by himself at times. The Mavs were able to knock off the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night 101- 96 behind 31 points from Dirk Nowitzki and 30 from Jason Terry. Butler did not play due to an allergic reaction to some medicine. Brendan Haywood had 11 points, nine rebounds and a whopping five blocks. The Mavs next game is Friday at Atlanta.

NHL: Dallas Stars (28-21-12, 68 points t-9^th in Western Conference)

-       The Olympic break has not been a passive one for Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk. The Stars had a logjam at goaltender with Mary Turco, Alex Auld and recently acquired Kari Lehtonen. Marty Turco is 4-1-1 in his last six starts and gained the starting job which led to the Stars waiving Alex Auld. The Stars will likely make a trade at the deadline to make a push for the playoffs as they are only one point out currently, but Marty Turco apparently will not be part of a deal.

US Sportsbook Review: MLB: Texas Rangers: Spring Training

-       The Texas Rangers will look to get off to a fast start this season but they will have to do it without Khalil Greene who was unable to report to camp with “a recurrence of issues he’s dealt with in the past” according to GM Jon Daniels. The Rangers will now need to find someone else to fill in as the utility infielder for the season. Greene may yet return to the team, but it will not be to start the season.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys: Offseason

-       The Cowboys did not place a franchise tag on WR Miles Austin and will now have to offer him a deal to keep him. Austin has been the most effective receiver for the Cowboys and is coming off his first pro-bowl season. The Cowboys may try to give him a tender, because he’s a restricted free agent, which would pay Austin over three million dollars for one year and allow the Cowboys to get a first and third round pick if they do not match another team’s offer sheet. The Cowboys will likely keep Austin if the price does not get too high, however many teams would love a player of Austin’s caliber and sorely need a number one receiver.

-       NFL Predictions : With the enigmatic Roy Williams taking up space in the Cowboys’ salary cap and not performing anywhere near his expectations, the Cowboys would be smart to get Austin signed to a deal on their own terms.

Return Of Folk Just A Folk Story

It is the offseason, which means that there will be lots of rumors and conjecture flying around. Case and point: recently, there were rumors that the Cowboys may bring back kicker Nick Folk into the fold.

On the surface, it might not seem that crazy considering Folk was a Pro Bowl kicker just two years ago but the reality is a little bit further from that. Folk struggled mightily this year to the point where he cost his team games. The Cowboys, who have been a little on the frail side mentally in past years, can’t afford to lose confidence because of missed field goals.

Folk blamed punter/holder Matt McBriar for his misses.

Regardless, it is very doubtful that Folk comes back for a tryout of any sorts.

On that note, kicker Matt Stover, who was steady for the AFC Champion Indianapolis Colts this year, expressed interest in kicking for the Cowboys next season. The 42-year-old was the oldest kicker in the league this year and the Cowboys may opt to go younger.

Felix Jones The Starter?

The Dallas Cowboys have plenty of depth in their backfield and many Cowboys fans are starting to draw up the pecking order for next year. One thing is for sure: Felix Jones definitely deserves a bigger role.

Jones could very well be the starter heading into the 2010 season as Marion Barber really tapered off to finish the year while Jones came on. Barber is supposed to be the power back but he struggled in short yardage situations in 2009, which really opened some eyes.

The biggest dilemma at this point is the fact that the Cowboys have three excellent running backs but none of them seem to stay healthy. Jones is the most explosive weapon but he has played in just 20 games through two seasons. Marion Barber, who is supposed to be the hammer, was nicked up this year while Tashard Choice also missed some time.

Internet betting fans know that the Cowboys plan to be a Super Bowl contender in 2010 but they have to figure out their backfield situation to start.

The early speculation is that Jones will start and Barber or Choice may be traded in the offseason. But if the Cowboys truly plan to contend, keep all three for depth would be the best move.

Dallas Sports Roundup – December 10

Dallas sports betting fans have a tough decision to make this weekend with their beloved Cowboys. Can they beat the red-hot Chargers? Maybe we’ll get some clarity if we check in with our other favorite Dallas sports teams in the meantime.

Dallas Mavericks (15-7, 1^st Southwest)

The Mavs still have first place in the Southwest and, while they’re not dominating, they’re humming along competitively. After an ugly end to last week in which they lost two straight games, they bounced back with an important win over Phoenix at home on Tuesday night. Offseason acquisitions continue to pay dividends. While Josh Howard was out, Shawn Marion showed real toughness, playing through an ankle injury to grind out minutes and points.

Josh Howard returned from ankle rehab for the Suns game and was instrumental to Dallas’ one-point victory, chipping in 20 points off the bench. As he eases his way back into the lineup, the Mavs can scale back Marion’s minutes and get him healthy again. Any die-hard sportsbook bettor will tell you that the next few weeks will tell us a lot about the Mavs, as they face Miami, Cleveland, Portland and Denver before the month is up.

Dallas Stars (13-8-9, 4^th Pacific)

It’s more of the same for the Dallas Stars of late. After two more overtime losses in their last two games they’re thanking the current standings format, as they’ve lost more in overtime than in regulation, earning many “overtime loss” points in the process. Sophomore James Neal’s hockey odds of avoiding the jinx are trending upward again. After a six-game pointless drought, he has two goals and two assists over his last four games. Meanwhile, Brad Richards continues to turn heads. He now has 35 points in just 26 games this season and is starting to earn consideration for a coveted spot on the Canadian Olympic team.

Texas Rangers (Offseason)

Finally, the Rangers’ offseason has truly begun. Texas was as busy as any team over Winter Meetings week. First, the Rangers shipped No. 1 starter Kevin Millwood and $3 million to the Baltimore Orioles for reliever Chris Ray and Baltimore’s rule-five draft pick. After bolstering their bullpen, the Rangers then signed starter Rich Harden to one-year deal worth $7.5 million in guaranteed money. It remains to be seen if Harden can stay healthy and avoid the long ball in Texas but there’s no denying his elite stuff and ridiculously high strikeout rate. The Rangers still aren’t done (Unlike the Bears’ NFL odds if they lose on Sunday). They’re reportedly close to sending catcher Max Ramirez to Boston for Mike Lowell. The veteran Lowell would provide better contact hitting and superior defense to the departing Hank Blalock.

Sportsbook bettors and Cowboy fans shared the sting of defeat last week. What happened? Everything pointed to a Dallas win over the broken New York Giants. Instead, Brandon Jacobs shocked America’s Team with his 74-yard touchdown catch. Dallas will try to pick up the pieces this week but it won’t be easy against the San Diego Chargers, who have won 15 straight December games.

Cowboys offense vs Chargers defense

Last week we discussed Tony Romo’s historical struggles in December. Against the Giants on December 6, however, the hex was nowhere to be found. Romo threw for a career-high 392 yards and three touchdowns. He and the Cowboy passing attack weren’t the problem. How will Dallas fare against the Chargers’ No. 8 pass defense? It’s tough to say, as the Chargers normally defend the pass well but let Brady Quinn of all people light them up for multiple scores last week.

Romo and the Chargers may battle to a stalemate. NFL odds suggest Romo may score a few big plays with Miles Austin but that the Chargers will also force a turnover or two. Dallas’ better option may be to focus on the running game, as the Chargers allow 117.8 rushing yards per contest – more than any other NFL team with a winning record this season. Dallas’ committee approach yields no stars between Marian Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard choice but the trio has combined to give the ’Boys the league’s No. 8 rushing attack.

Cowboys defense vs Chargers offense

We have to favor San Diego’s offense in this matchup. Phil Rivers simply doesn’t make many mistakes; he’s thrown just six interceptions all season and has none in his last four games versus seven touchdown passes. The Chargers’ No. 6 passing attack has sizzled of late – particularly through the Rivers-to-Antonio Gates connection. The Cowboys are just so-so against the pass so they may have trouble holding Rivers down. The Chargers don’t run too much anymore, only really handing off to LaDainian Tomlinson in scoring situations. If the Cowboys can stake an out an early lead and force San Diego to pass, they’ll have to hope their pass rush does a better job than it did against Eli Manning last week.

Outlook

With Romo possibly shedding his December jinx and the Cowboy runners poised for a big day against the Chargers, America’s Team has a good chance in this one, especially at home. However, it’s tough to ignore San Diego’s momentum – seven straight wins this season and 15 straight in December are impressive.

In the end, I like Dallas to pull it out and sports betting sharps should agree. Four of San Diego’s seven straight wins came against Kansas City (twice), Oakland and Denver. Winning on the road against a healthy Dallas team is another story. I like the Cowboys’ more balanced offense to make the difference in this one. They’re good football picks for Week 14.

The Dallas Cowboys will face the San Diego Chargers at Cowboys Stadium in week 14. The Cowboys are coming off a tough loss on the road against the New York Giants, and in case you haven’t heard it is another loss in the month of December. Tony Romo’s 392 yards and 3 touchdowns were not enough to overcome the cowboys lack of a running game, and the big plays the otherwise solid defense gave up. This December loss felt different than most because the Cowboys played well enough to win, but a few plays didn’t go their way and then the Giants broke it open. The San Diego Chargers are bringing a 7 game winning streak to Dallas, last week they struggled some against the Browns.

The Cowboys’ NFL odds are on the rise and that’s not the only good news in the Lone Star State, as the Stars and Mavericks are heating up too. Let’s delve deeper into the good news for our Dallas Sports teams.

Dallas Mavericks

Talk about a successful road trip. After the Mavs opened their season with a home loss to the underrated Washington Wizards, they did the unthinkable and beat the Lakers at Staples Center Friday night. The Mavs followed that performance with another win the next night versus the Clippers. Amazingly, the Mavs were just 3-13 all-time in L.A./L.A. road trips. Dirk Nowitzki continues to look refreshed, averaging over 26 points per game so far this season. Shawn Marion’s rebounding is giving the Mavs an energy boost too. More depth is on the way too with Josh Howard nearing his return to the lineup from ankle surgery, so the Mavs are suddenly hot sports picks.

Dallas Stars

How many sportsbook odds makers would’ve predicted that the Stars would be the Western Conference’s third highest-scoring team through 14 games? The Stars continue to get consistent and balanced offense, as five different skaters have five goals already. The biggest story continues to be that of budding sniper James Neal. During his current six-game point streak he has five goals and nine assists; he’s showing no signs of slowing down right now. Marty Turco’s resurgent season could be on hold for a bit longer, as the goaltender is still showing flu-like symptoms.

Texas Rangers

Offseason activity is understandably quiet so far for the Texas Rangers; heck, the World Series odds are still being bet on as we speak. But the seeds for major changes are growing. Financially struggling Rangers (and Stars) owner Tom Hicks is looking into selling the Club and meeting with several potential buyers. The latest possible bidder arrived last week; former sports agent Dennis Gilbert, who once represented George Brett, Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla, Mike Piazza and Curt Schilling. Reportedly, Hicks wants to sell controlling interest in the Rangers but maintain some position of ownership.

**UPDATE** WR Miles Austin will start over WR Patrick Crayton

The Dallas Cowboys are back in action this week after a productive bye week, yeah thats right the Cowboys had one of their most productive weeks of the season without even playing a game. Heading into the bye week the local and national media ripped the Cowboys because the barely squeaked out a win against the ailing Chiefs. While sloppy play against poor teams is nothing to celebrate the Cowboys are 3 – 2 – 0, and last time I checked a winning record is a good thing. The Cowboys had a productive week for two reasons, the first of these reasons is that all three of the running backs are healthy again heading into the week 7 match-up against the Atlanta Falcons. Dallas also made a roster move that will help the special teams as well as help ensure that Felix Jones stays healthy. The signing of Allen Rossum a 12 veteran return man should keep RB Felix Jones and WR Patrick Crayton off the field in return situations. This is great for the Cowboys because it limits Felix Jones exposure to big hits as well as offer an upgrade to Patrick Crayton. The second way the bye week was productive was in the standings is in the NFC East Standings, all of the other teams in the NFC East lost during the Cowboys bye week, and these losses were to some bad teams. The problems in Washington run deep and were not helped by the loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. The Eagles also lost to a team / organization with huge problems, the Oakland Raiders knocked off the Eagles. Last but definitely not least, the New York Football Giants got a drubbing by the New Orleans Saints high octane offense. After all of this the Cowboys sit tied with the Eagles for 2nd place in the NFC East 2 games behind the Giants.

This week the Dallas Cowboys will face the Atlanta Falcons in a game that will test the Cowboys at their Death Star in Arlington, TX. The Falcons have the offensive weapons to be a match-up nightmare and their defense is ranked 24th in the league, to put this in perspective the Cowboys are ranked 22nd in total defense.
