Dallas Cowboys Update: Injured Players Return

October 11, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

As the Dallas Cowboys come off of its online betting bye week, the team prepares for a huge challenge as the New England Patriots prepare to host the Cowboys. At 2-2, the Cowboys are not completely unhappy with the way the season is going, but everyone on the team knows that things could be better. One of the price per head things that could happen to help the Cowboys make a playoff push is to get all of their injured players back on the practice field. On the first Monday practice after the bye week, the Cowboys are starting to look much healthier.

Most notable in their returns were wide receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. Bryant had been playing with a deep thigh bruise that was causing his leg to tighten up by the second half of games and restricting his ability to run. Miles Austin has been nursing a sensitive hamstring the past few weeks but looks ready to return.

While the pay per head news on the injury front has been good for the offense, the defense is still without some key players. Defensive end Jason Hatcher and safety Danny McCray are both still recovering from injuries and could not join team on the practice field. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick has declared himself healthy and ready to get back on the field, but the team has not yet cleared Scandrick to practice.

The Cowboys also have a couple of important role players still on the sidelines awaiting clearance to practice. Kicker David Buehler is still nursing a sore groin that looks like it will keep him out of the game against the Patriots. Fullback Tony Fiammetta is also unable to practice and it is unknown exactly when he will be able to re-join the team on the practice field.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo is still taking a beating in the media for his inconsistent play this season. The latest attacks have come from Washington, where current and former Redskins are lashing out at Romo’s play. Current Redskins’ tight end Chris Cooley blogged and tweeted that he was happy to watch Romo choke in the Cowboys’ week four loss to the Detroit Lions. When pressed to explain his statements on national talk radio, Cooley stood by his assertion that Romo faltered late in the Detroit game and Romo was an NFL pick as one of the reasons why the Cowboys lost the game.

Former Redskins’ quarterback Joe Theismann has said on a national radio talk show that Romo is making mistakes that a pee wee quarterback would get benched for. NFL Network analyst and hall of fame cornerback Deion Sanders has said that Romo is not the quarterback that will take the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

In more positive intertops Dallas Cowboys news, owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys organization have started up talks with the Alamodome to renew the training camp contract that ran out when the regular season started this year. It has been rumored that the two sides are only discussing next year’s training camp, but neither side has confirmed or denied anything at this point.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Changes Continue on the Offensive Line

September 6, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The Dallas Cowboys front office sent a strong message to the sports betting football fans of the world when it released veteran offensive lineman Montrae Holland to get the roster to the 53-man limit. Holland joins former Cowboys center Andre Gurode as the second veteran offensive lineman to be released in a week.

The move leaves the Cowboys with an offensive line consisting of mostly young and inexperienced players. But one of the consistent themes in every player on the Dallas offensive line is that they are physically fit. The Cowboys made the decision to address its offensive line problems by getting younger and leaner. Last year, the Dallas offensive line was one of the main problems in an offense that had a hard time getting productive. The NFL betting lines in Dallas will have to adjust to these changes made by the front office, and the fans are hoping that the right changes were made.

In another personnel move that confused NFL fans in Dallas, the Cowboys released all of its fullbacks including starting fullback Chris Gronkowski. Then the Cowboys claimed fullback Tony Fiammetta to enhance the ground game. Gronkowski, who is one of the three Gronkowski brothers that play in the NFL, was immediately claimed by the Indianapolis Colts and looks to have a good chance to compete for the Colts’ starting fullback position.

In the Dallas Cowboys season opener, the team travels to New York City to face the New York Jets. This puts new Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in direct competition with his twin brother, and New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan. The twins are the sons of legendary NFL defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan, who is best known for putting together the dominating Chicago Bears’ defense of the 1980’s.

A while ago, Buddy Ryan was diagnosed with neck cancer and will require surgery to fight the disease. The 80-year-old coach was scheduled for surgery later this week, but he is putting it off until Monday so he can be in New York on Sunday to watch his boys coach.

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to follow an ill-fated place-kicking formula that has a kicker for kick-offs and a separate player to kick field goals. The betonline.com reviews for kickers Dan Bailey and David Buehler were so positive that the Cowboys have kept both players. In an arrangement that has never worked full-time for any other NFL team in the past, the Cowboys will have Bailey kick field goals and Buehler will kick off. In a move that looks like the Cowboys are desperately fishing for answers on special teams, the Cowboys decide to use two roster spots on place kickers. It is a decision that is made even more confusing by the new rule that moves the kickoffs five yards closer. Most kickers in the preseason have been putting kickoffs through the end zone. For some reason, the Cowboys feel they need two kickers to accomplish that task.

Dallas Cowboys Update: The Search for a Coach Continues

Dallas Cowboys Update: The Search for a Coach Continues

The online sports betting websites are buzzing after the Dallas Cowboys lost a game on Christmas Day to the Arizona Cardinals that they never should have lost. It is difficult for the NFL betting lines experts to say that a missed extra point will cost Jason Garrett the chance to become the full-time Cowboys head coach, but it is certain that place kicker David Buehler did not help his chances of being on the Cowboys roster next season, if there is a next season.

The sportsbook promo betting action this week for the Cowboys centers on two topics; the search for a new head coach and who will play quarterback in the Cowboys final game of the season. The coaching search is under way, but owner Jerry Jones says that his list of potential candidates is short. Aside from Garrett, the only other current Cowboy coach that Jones mentioned by name is wide receivers coach Ray Sherman. Jones says that both Garrett and Jones will be given a chance to go through the interview process when the season is over.

Other names that keep coming up are Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher, but Jones expressed some hesitation at hiring a former Super Bowl winning coach. Jones pointed out that no head coach has won a Super Bowl with two different teams, and the goal in Dallas is a Super Bowl.

Along with the high profile coaching names, candidates such as Mike Singletary and Norv Turner are also being discussed. While the media has been throwing names around for the interview process, Jones assured fans and the media that the short list of actual candidates is less than 10 and that this interview process will be much more comprehensive than the process that was used to hire Wade Philips.

Dallas Round-Up – Cowboys Prepare For Colts, Mavs Are On Fire, Stars Rolling Too

Dallas Round-Up – Cowboys Prepare For Colts, Mavs Are On Fire, Stars Rolling Too

College football betting players don’t have much to worry about in the Dallas area, but two of the professional teams are lighting up the league, while the major story in the city are getting ready to face another tough opponent, this time on the road.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys battled hard in a 30-27 loss at home to New Orleans on Thanksgiving Thursday, snapping a two-game winning streak under Jason Garrett. The offense put up 457 yards, but had three turnovers, and a Roy Williams fumble in New Orleans’ territory gave the Saints a chance to score a late touchdown, while David Buehler narrowly missed a 59-yard field goal that would have tied the game. The Cowboys now move onto Indianapolis as 5-point football betting underdogs, but the Colts are struggling, particularly Peyton Manning, and the Cowboys should see this as a chance to build more momentum for next year.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the league as they carry a seven-game winning streak into Utah on Friday night, and this is intriguing because both teams have won seven in a row heading into this contest, so something obviously has to give. The Mavericks started last week with a nine-point win in San Antonio on Friday, which ended a 12-game winning streak for the Spurs, then beat the underachieving Miami Heat at home on Saturday night. The Mavericks then beat Houston at home by 10 on Monday, then by 14 points over Minnesota on Wednesday, and they’re coming together better than a lot of people thought.  After the Utah showdown on Friday, the Mavericks head to Sacramento on Saturday, then back home for Golden State on Tuesday.

Dallas Stars

If you checked out the NHL sports news and were surprised to find the Stars on top of the Pacific Division, you weren’t alone, but neither is Dallas: as of Thursday, they were tied with Phoenix and Anaheim on 29 points, while Los Angeles and San Jose are only three points back. The Stars had won four in a row ahead of Thursday’s visit from Washington, winning at Ottawa, followed by back-to-back victories over St. Louis, then another road win at Carolina. The Stars allowed four goals in those four games, and that will always give you a good chance to win. After the Washington game, the Stars host Minnesota on Saturday night, followed by road games at Columbus and Chicago. Even moreso than the Mavericks, no one expected the Stars to be this competitive in the Pacific Division, which is loaded with talent, but if they keep this up, it’ll be more difficult to ignore their NHL betting odds in your online sportsbook.

Dallas Cowboys Update: All Not Quite Rosy At Valley Ranch

November 16, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The sports betting world was interested, and surprised, to see the Dallas Cowboys knock off the mighty New York Giants in the debut game of interim head coach Jason Garrett. But before the NFL betting experts fall in love with Garrett, some incidents have come up to indicate that not everything in the Cowboys camp is grand. The NFL scores for week 10 may have gone the Cowboys’ way, but they are still struggling to live up to the preseason NFL predictions that had them in the playoffs.

Not every player on the Cowboys roster is excited at the prospects that Garrett brings the team. Running back Marion Barber is proving to still be a disgruntled employee that is intent on causing disruption. When Garrett took over the team he instituted a dress policy for charter flights that included dress shoes, a sport coat and a tie. Barber refuses to follow the policy, and rumblings are already starting in the Cowboys locker room.

Garrett did not initially address the issue with any statement or punishment. But the interim head coach announced that Barber will more than likely be punished for not following team rules. Barber has been unhappy all season as he has watched the majority of the running back workload going to Felix Jones. Barber has been brought in on situations that normally do not have an effect on the game. Garrett says he has no intention on changing Barber’s role in the team’s game plans.

The Dallas Cowboys have had kicker nightmares the past two seasons. It could be argued that bad field goal kicking cost them important games in each of the last two seasons. All seemed well this year until new kicker David Buehler missed two relatively easy kicks against the Giants. It did not cost the Cowboys the game, but Jason Garrett has no intention on letting it get to that point. He publicly put Buehler on notice this week indicating that the place kicker needs to improve his accuracy or he will be out of a job.

Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban has chimed in on the firing of Wade Phillips, and Cuban says he understands why the change was made. In Cuban’s opinion, Phillips was allowing a losing culture to grow in the Dallas locker room. The coach had lost the players as far as respect and motivation goes, and when that happens it is time to get rid of the coach. Cuban was quick to point out that the whole process with Wade Phillips had nothing to do with Jason Garrett. It had everything to do with changing the mindset in the Cowboys’ locker room from chaos to a disciplined winner.

Reality entered into the fantasy world of an NFL football game for 12 frightening minutes as the power went out in the New Meadowlands while the Dallas Cowboys were playing the New York Giants. Players and fans were confused and a bit scared as no one knew what was really going on. After 12 minutes, the power came back on. Giants owner John Mara made a joke of the situation when the game was over saying that if he had known the outcome of the game in advance he would have kept the lights off.

Week 1 Review: Cowboys Look Awful

September 15, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Ugly is the only word that can describe the first game of the season for the Dallas Cowboys. I have said it before and I will say it again, what was Jason Garrett thinking? His play calling is awful, he doesn’t appear to think before making important decisions and I hope that he is not still in the running to replace Wade when the time comes.

My biggest problem with Garrett is the inefficiency of the offense, if you listened to the so-called experts and judged an offense based on yardage the Boys have one of the best. Too bad games in the NFL are decided by the score and not total yards. Not only was the Cowboys offense inefficient they gave the Redskins a touchdown when Romo should have been taking a knee. That play shouldn’t have been run and nobody from the top all the way to the bottom stopped it. Romo should have taken a knee and Wade should have punched Garrett in the back of the head. There are a few other things that are still bothering me about last week as well. You can argue that any of the following plays cost us the game:

Dallas Cowboys: Cause for Preseason Concern?

Dallas Cowboys Kicker David BuehlerWith one more game remaining in the preseason, the Cowboys have been a hop topic for discussion since their horrible performance last Saturday in that 23-7 lost to the Houston Texans.

In that game, the Cowboys looked out of sync, discombobulated, and worn down as they were physically beaten by the Texans and raised some eye brows about the super bowl contender.

Will the red zone woes from last season carry over to this season? Can the offensive line hold up enough to keep Romo off his back? Or, can Alan Ball and Gerald Sensabaugh provide the consistent play at the safety positions this defense has desperately needed in past years.

So, here are four concerns for the Cowboys going into the last preseason game.  More importantly, these are areas they need to address with the regular season right around the corner: Read more
