Dallas Cowboys Update: The Changes Begin

January 10, 2012 by · 1 Comment

The sports betting world is way too familiar with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to assume that the Cowboys will be the same team in 2012 that it was in 2011. There will be changes in Dallas, and everyone has learned to wait for the actual moves to take place because what Jerry Jones says and what he does are always two different things. One move that has already been made in Dallas is the release of defensive secondary coach Dave Campo. The Dallas secondary has not played up to expectations in the last few years, and Campo was the one that took the fall for it after the season ended.

The price per head sports experts are starting to notice that wide receiver Miles Austin has not been the same since he signed his big contract three years ago. One problem that is out of Austin’s control is the rash of injuries he has suffered, especially in the 2011 season. The lingering effects from injuries could be what has slowed Austin up this year, but his production in the two previous years was lacking as well. Some observers are calling on Dez Bryant to push the issue on who should be the number one receiver to help motivate Austin. But, so far, neither receiver has commented on what could be the genesis of another locker room battle for the Dallas Cowboys.

On the other end of the passing spectrum is quarterback Tony Romo. The fans are starting to wonder if maybe it is time to think of the future at quarterback. The pay per head sports analysts are projecting that the Cowboys may take a quarterback in the draft, but it would not be until a later round. The Cowboys have so many positions to address in the 2012 draft that quarterback is not high on the priority list. There is also the question as to whether or not second-string quarterback Stephen McGee may be the heir apparent and his time is starting to come. But all of that will be answered as the team moves closer to the 2012 training camp.

Amongst all of the disappointment and problems that the Dallas Cowboys have experienced lately, a bodog review of the Pro Bowl balloting shows a small glimmer of respect for the Dallas defense. Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Ware has been voted into his sixth Pro Bowl and will compete in the week between the championship games and the Super Bowl. Ware was definitely a consistent force on the Dallas defense and says he does plan on being there for the Pro Bowl festivities.

For all of the questions that still surround his play and all of the speculation about his job security next season, quarterback Tony Romo did finish the season as the fourth rated passer in the NFL. It would be a bet online scam to completely ignore the strides forward that Romo made in his development from last season to this season. Romo threw for 4,184 passing yards this year, but it was his 31 touchdowns compared to only 10 interceptions that should impress people. Romo was efficient at times, but he was not always able to get points when the Cowboys needed them. But the work that Romo has done in the 2011 season should be enough to warrant Romo keeping his job and getting the chance to be the starter again in 2012.

Dallas Cowboys Update – Season Ends and Hope Begins

January 3, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

The online sportsbook experts did not expect much from the Dallas Cowboys in 2011. The Cowboys were coming off of a disappointing season in 2010 with a new head coach, new defensive coordinator and basically the same roster that could not make the playoffs last year. With some key injuries on the offensive line and in the offensive backfield, the Cowboys were even less of the team it was last year. The price per head sports experts did not expect Dallas to be a Super Bowl contender and the odds the Cowboys were given to win the Super Bowl reflected that.

Now that the season is over and the Cowboys lost the most critical game of the season to the New York Giants, the finger-pointing begins along with the long bouts of confusion. The fans are getting anxious over this lack of playoff success under owner Jerry Jones. Head coach Jason Garrett looked out of place at times and made decisions a high school coach in his first game would not make. You just don’t ice your own kicker on the game winning field goal. If you have been in football for more than a season or two, then you should know that instinctively.

New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was supposed to bring the system that he perfected in Cleveland to Dallas and use superior players to get better results. As the season wore on, it became evident that the Cowboys’ defensive players were not all that superior to the Browns’ players. According to the pay per head sports experts, Ryan’s defense in Dallas ranked 14th overall by the time the season was over. It did great against the rush where it ranked seventh, but wound up 23rd against the pass. The defense just could not stop the opposition when it had to.

A bodog review of the entire Dallas team shows a team that was affected by the lack of a training camp. The team did not have time to get used to its new systems and its new coaches and it suffered. Jason Garrett is going to have to work on his game management skills because he made several blatant errors that had even the most casual fans scratching their heads. To judge this team on this season is probably not fair.

The first questions that Jerry Jones handled after the loss to the Giants were about the futures of Garrett and Ryan. Jones was adamant when he said that both men would stay in their positions with the team next season. Jones did not address any concerns about the level of NFL caliber talent on the Cowboys’ roster. While changes are expected, Jones did not give any indication of what kind of changes to expect.

One player that did speak out was wide receiver Dez Bryant. He indicated that the team was angry and disappointed at the way the season turned out. When asked about his own performance in his second year, Bryant indicated that he did okay but that he could do better. The Cowboys’ players all seem to share the burden of the loss, which could be the first sign of a team coming together as a single unit.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Dallas is Moving On Up

November 29, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Some of the online betting experts are taking credit for seeing the rise of the Dallas Cowboys coming, while other price per head betting enthusiasts are still shocked at the turn of events. With the New York Giants getting absolutely bludgeoned on Monday Night Football by the New Orleans Saints, the Dallas Cowboys have taken over first place in the NFC East by one complete game. At 7-4, the Cowboys are pulling away from the rest of a division that is struggling to win games. The only team winning consistently at this point besides the Cowboys is the Washington Redskins, and no one expects that to last.

While some people want to give credit to quarterback Tony Romo for the winning streak, others are looking towards rookie kicker Dan Bailey and the fact that his kicks have been responsible for winning two of the last four games. One of the more important kicks Bailey has made was the kick for the overtime win over the Washington Redskins two weeks ago. The Cowboys are pleased that Bailey is able to perform under pressure and have expressed no problems with turning to the rookie with the game on the line. With the pieces all working together, all the Cowboys have to do now is get players back from injury

The biggest pay per head injury concern at this point is wide receiver Miles Austin. Second-year receiver Dez Bryant has done an excellent job at spreading out the field in Austin’s absence, but the Cowboys are anxiously awaiting the return of its number one receiver. With the Cowboys completely intact, the team will look to put a cap on the NFC East and prepare for a playoff push.

A bodog review of the career of Tony Romo shows that the Dallas quarterback has found nothing but success in the month of December. Last season was not a December to remember, but in previous years Romo has shined in the last calendar month of the year. With the Cowboys on a roll and starting to get healthy, Romo is hoping that he can continue his good luck in December and help close out the NFC East title by the end of the month. The Cowboys lost its first meeting with the Giants, but Dallas gets another shot at New York in December. A split with the Giants a couple of wins in December would lock up the NFC East title for the Cowboys. It is something Jerry Jones has wanted for a while now.

When you look at the NFL schedule for the next few weeks, it looks like the Cowboys have a good chance at winning out for an incredible 12-4 record. But will all of that momentum and strong play be enough to beat the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers when the playoffs roll around? The Cowboys played the 49ers earlier in the season in a game that saw Tony Romo come back from an injury to throw for 349 yards and get the win. Up until Thanksgiving Day, that loss to Dallas was the only loss the 49ers had suffered all season.

But the Cowboys have not had a chance to line up against the Green Bay Packers yet, and that has a lot of people talking about the possibilities. The one weakness the Packers have is stopping a running game. When Felix Jones is completely healthy, Dallas will have Jones and DeMarco Murray in the backfield. Will it be enough to beat the Packers in the playoffs? Only time will tell.

Dallas Cowboys Update: More Wide Receiver Problems

November 8, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The sports betting fans in Dallas watched as number one wide receiver Miles Austin injured his hamstring in week two and missed the next two weeks. Wide receiver Dez Bryant has also missed time due to injury. Just as Bryant shows signs of being healthy enough to perform at a high level, Miles Austin gets injured again in the win over Seattle in week nine. Miles will be out for another two to three weeks, and that makes room for rookie Laurent Robinson to make an impact on the Cowboys’ coaching staff.

While Robinson is a good price per head receiver, the persistent injuries at the wide receiver position are working to make the Cowboys thin at that position. To remedy the situation, owner Jerry Jones has indicated that the Cowboys will go out into the free agency market and see who they can pick up. The first name that came to most fans’ minds was former Cowboy Terrell Owens. Jones and the Cowboys have not indicated that they will be talking to Owens, but they have also not ruled out the possibility.

The pay per head football fans in Dallas may be wondering what is going on at the running back position. When starter Felix Jones went down with an injury, the Cowboys turned to rookie running back DeMarco Murray to carry the load in Jones’ absence. Murray has done an exceptional job and many fans are wondering if Murray has won the starting job from Jones. According to head coach Jason Garrett, Felix Jones returns this week as the Cowboys’ starting running back and will get put immediately back into the starting position.

Garrett commented on the job that Murray has done saying that Murray and third-string running back Phillip Tanner have created a lot of options for the Cowboys’ offense that Dallas was unaware it had. Garrett indicated that, because of the emergence of Murray, the Cowboys may start using a two-back approach more often, which is similar to what the team did when running back Marion Barber was on the roster.

A Forbes article has been circulating that lists Tony Romo as one of the most hated players in the NFL. But a 5 dimes review of the content of the article shows that Romo is more respected than hated. The article lists Romo’s jersey as one of the top sellers in the league, which makes the Dallas quarterback a hit with the fans. But his popularity has caused some NFL players to dislike Romo. Romo detractors are waving the article around trying to gain momentum on the notion that Romo is hated by his teammates. But the truth is that the article talks more about player jealousy from outside the Cowboys’ locker room than any issues with the Cowboys itself.

The NFL schedule is half over for the Dallas Cowboys, and the team is lucky to be 4-4 at this point. Veteran leaders such as Jason Witten identify how lucky the Cowboys team is to be at the .500 mark, and warn Dallas players that now is the time to get the team rolling into a playoff mode.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Murray and Bryant Look to Contribute

October 26, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The online betting football fans in Dallas had vaguely heard of rookie running back DeMarco Murray prior to the Cowboys’ week seven game against the St. Louis Rams. By the time the game was over, Murray had run up 253 rushing yards which obliterated the Cowboys’ rookie single-game rushing record previously held by Emmitt Smith, and everyone knew who DeMarco Murray was. But Emmitt Smith himself put a warning out to Murray that he needs to follow up on his success by being consistent. Smith warned Murray that one great game can make you a football history footnote, but it does not guarantee a career.

Murray got the price per head opportunity to shine when starting running back Felix Jones was sidelined with a bad ankle. But Murray still has work to do to prove himself in the NFL. The St. Louis Rams’ defense he ran all over is one of the worst run defenses in the league. The Cowboys’ offensive line was dominating in that game. A better test for Murray will come in week eight when the Cowboys travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.

The Cowboys got some more pay per head good news when wide receiver Dez Bryant started returning punts again in the St. Louis game. Bryant had stayed away from returning punts because of a series of injuries that had slowed him down. But he felt well enough in week seven to field five punts against St. Louis. Two were touchbacks, two were fair catches and Bryant had the chance to return one. Bryant indicated that he felt fine and was looking forward to taking over the full-time punt return duties again.

Any fan who picks NFL games for a betting website or in the office football pool knows that the offensive line is one of the most important parts of a football team. The Cowboys are banged up and depleted on the offensive line. Things are so bad that the Cowboys had to re-sign previously released offensive lineman Montrae Holland to play at left guard against the Rams on Sunday. It turned out to be one of the best recent moves the Cowboys had made.

Head coach Jason Garrett said that Holland played well enough to earn a starting spot on the Cowboys’ offensive line and that fans can expect to see Holland on the line when the Cowboys play the Eagles. Garrett did not say what would happen next week when the original starting left guard Derrick Dockery is ready to return to action.

Most NFL fans may not realize that the Dallas Cowboys have the top-ranked run defense in the league. The Cowboys are only allowing an average of 69.7 yards per game, and that is almost exactly what the Dallas defense allowed St. Louis running back Steven Jackson in week seven. By the time the week seven game was over between the Cowboys and the Rams, Steven Jackson had been held to only 70 yards rushing. It was a key component in the Cowboy’s ability to shut down the St. Louis offense and win the game.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Jason Garrett Comes Under Fire

October 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

As the Breeder’s Cup betting gets underway, the Dallas Cowboys find itself with a 2-3 record and a whole new list of issues. When the season started, it was emotional second-year wide receiver Dez Bryant who was calling out teammates and trying to get the Cowboys inspired. When that didn’t work, the media and Cowboys organization turned to the common tactic of criticism.

The first victim of Cowboys criticism was quarterback Tony Romo. The price per head fans in Dallas are not convinced that Romo is the one that can lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl run and they are voicing their opinions at Cowboys’ home games. It did not help when hall of fame cornerback Deion Sanders came out and publicly said that Tony Romo is not the right quarterback for a deep playoff run. The Tony Romo debate continues as another point of contention arises for fans and team owners alike.

Head coach Jason Garrett is the newest high profile Cowboy under scrutiny. Garrett’s ability to read a situation and make the right play calls are being questioned by the fans, media and team owner Jerry Jones. When the Cowboys blew a 24-point lead to the Detroit Lions, Garrett’s play-calling was referred to as being too aggressive. After the loss the next week to the New England Patriots, Garrett was said to be too passive in his game management decisions.

The price per head bookmaking experts were a bit surprised to hear the team owner call out the coach. But everyone was shocked when Garrett dismissed Jones’ comments and indicated that he would continue to coach the team his way. For his part, Jones has already indicated that he will not fire Garrett in the middle of the season. The negative emotions of firing former head coach Wade Philips at mid-season last year still linger for Jones and he said he is not interested in repeating that.

A bodog review of the Dallas loss to New England in week six clouds the Cowboys’ season with the list of Cowboys who sustained injuries in that game. The most notable injury is the leg injury to left offensive guard Bill Nagy that will end the season for Nagy. The Cowboys were already struggling on the offensive line and losing the veteran lineman is not going to help the situation.

Another notable injury from the New England loss is the high ankle sprain of running back Felix Jones. With the Cowboys already looking to trade a disgruntled Tashard Choice, the offensive backfield is getting thin. It would be a betonline scam to expect Jones back on the field any time soon. The team is saying two to four weeks for Jones. But players that have had a high ankle sprain know that it can take weeks to properly heal and, even if Jones returns before the end of the season, there is a good chance that he will not be at 100 percent until next year.

Dallas Sports Fan – Rangers Move Closer, Cowboys Rest Up, Stars

October 13, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

MLB fans in the Dallas area must be ecstatic with the Texas Rangers right now, and this series may not even make it back to the Lone Star State, but they’ll have to go through the probable Cy Young winner to make that happen. In football news, the Cowboys are well-rested after a bye, but they have a massive test waiting for them, while the Stars drop the puck on the NHL season.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers have rolled to a 3-1 lead in the ALCS against Detroit, and after a subpar ALDS, Texas’ big guns are coming around and a good sportsbook review would tell you that the Rangers need to score in order to move on. Nelson Cruz has been the star of the show and he put the Rangers on his back in a pair of 11th-inning wins. First in Texas for Game 2, Cruz hit the first walk-off grand slam in postseason history in a 7-3 victory, and then in Game 4 in Detroit, Cruz threw out the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera in the eighth inning to keep the score at 3-3, and then he hit a three-run dinger in the 11th to power the Rangers to another 7-3 win. On Thursday, the Rangers will try to defeat Detroit ace Justin Verlander for the second time in the series, and if they can do that, it’s back to the World Series for the second year in a row.

Dallas Cowboys

Price per head sports fans aren’t giving the Cowboys much of a chance as they come off a bye to head to New England, coming in as 7-point underdogs. But Dallas has received a bit of good news as receivers Miles Austin (hamstring) and Dez Bryant (quad) practiced fully and will be close to 100% in what should be a high-scoring affair. However, the key will be a secondary that was lit up by Detroit two weeks ago; can they hold off a New England offense that is the top-ranked unit in the league? Pay head players should definitely consider the over in this contest as both secondaries struggle; it should be a fantasy player’s dream, as well.

Dallas Stars

The Stars have won two of their first three games to kick off the 2011-12 NHL campaign, and they split a home-and-home with Chicago on Friday and Saturday, taking the first game at home by a score of 2-1, and then falling 5-2 in the Windy City the next night. On Monday, the Stars claimed a 2-1 shootout win at home over Phoenix and then they’ll be at home to St. Louis on Thursday. Dallas ends this week with another home-and-home against Columbus, at home on Saturday and on the road in Tuesday, and a quick start would do a lot to foster some faith among sports betting sites.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Injured Players Return

October 11, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

As the Dallas Cowboys come off of its online betting bye week, the team prepares for a huge challenge as the New England Patriots prepare to host the Cowboys. At 2-2, the Cowboys are not completely unhappy with the way the season is going, but everyone on the team knows that things could be better. One of the price per head things that could happen to help the Cowboys make a playoff push is to get all of their injured players back on the practice field. On the first Monday practice after the bye week, the Cowboys are starting to look much healthier.

Most notable in their returns were wide receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. Bryant had been playing with a deep thigh bruise that was causing his leg to tighten up by the second half of games and restricting his ability to run. Miles Austin has been nursing a sensitive hamstring the past few weeks but looks ready to return.

While the pay per head news on the injury front has been good for the offense, the defense is still without some key players. Defensive end Jason Hatcher and safety Danny McCray are both still recovering from injuries and could not join team on the practice field. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick has declared himself healthy and ready to get back on the field, but the team has not yet cleared Scandrick to practice.

The Cowboys also have a couple of important role players still on the sidelines awaiting clearance to practice. Kicker David Buehler is still nursing a sore groin that looks like it will keep him out of the game against the Patriots. Fullback Tony Fiammetta is also unable to practice and it is unknown exactly when he will be able to re-join the team on the practice field.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo is still taking a beating in the media for his inconsistent play this season. The latest attacks have come from Washington, where current and former Redskins are lashing out at Romo’s play. Current Redskins’ tight end Chris Cooley blogged and tweeted that he was happy to watch Romo choke in the Cowboys’ week four loss to the Detroit Lions. When pressed to explain his statements on national talk radio, Cooley stood by his assertion that Romo faltered late in the Detroit game and Romo was an NFL pick as one of the reasons why the Cowboys lost the game.

Former Redskins’ quarterback Joe Theismann has said on a national radio talk show that Romo is making mistakes that a pee wee quarterback would get benched for. NFL Network analyst and hall of fame cornerback Deion Sanders has said that Romo is not the quarterback that will take the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

In more positive intertops Dallas Cowboys news, owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys organization have started up talks with the Alamodome to renew the training camp contract that ran out when the regular season started this year. It has been rumored that the two sides are only discussing next year’s training camp, but neither side has confirmed or denied anything at this point.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Tony Romo Becoming a Polarizing Figure for Cowboys

October 4, 2011 by · 1 Comment

When you are the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, the online betting sports fans pay a lot of attention to you. That is especially true when you are losing. Tony Romo has lost eight of his last 12 NFL starts, he only has one playoff win in his career and his style of play is being singled out by many people as the primary reason why the Cowboys are struggling.

For all of the price per head activity that surrounds Romo, he remains a polarizing figure among Cowboys’ players, fans, management and others in the Dallas sports world. Dallas Mavericks’ star player and NBA finals MVP Dirk Nowtizki has made statements in support of Romo. Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett has indicated that Romo is not to take all of the blame for the team’s failings as of late.

But former Dallas Cowboys’ cornerback, and recent NFL Hall of Fame inductee, Deion Sanders has said that Romo is not an elite quarterback and not the one that will lead Dallas to the Super Bowl. Sanders says that Romo shows the fortitude to be a winner, but lacks the decision-making abilities of a true champion.

The price per head bookmaking services may hear a little less out of Dallas defensive coordinator this week after his comments last week may have worked to inspire the Detroit Lions. Dallas defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, along with his brother Rex Ryan (Jets head coach), is never at a loss for confidence. Prior to the Detroit game, Rob Ryan said that his defense practices against receivers that are better than Detroit’s Calvin Johnson. Ryan went so far as to say that Johnson would be a third-string receiver on the Cowboys at best.

By the time the week four game against the Lions was over, the Cowboys’ defense had collapsed and Calvin Johnson had caught two critical touchdowns. Ryan’s insistence that Johnson only needed to be in single coverage for the entire game could be one of the things that cost Dallas the game. We may hear boasts from Ryan in the future, but he may avoid mentioning individual names from now on.

The top NFL pick for the Cowboys two years ago, wide receiver Dez Bryant, is having problems finishing games because he is unable to practice. Bryant has a deep thigh bruise that makes it painful for him to run for extended periods of time. By the time that the fourth quarter comes around, Bryant can barely move. NFL fans in Dallas have been impressed to this point because Bryant has played well in the three games he has been in. But the pain and lack of conditioning is starting to catch up with him.

Head coach Jason Garrett mentioned that the trainers are doing everything they can for Bryant, but the big wide receiver may experience conditioning issues until that deep thigh bruise is gone. Bryant caught two touchdown passes in the week four loss to Detroit, but he has been unable to run the deep routes that he is expected to run since the season opened.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Cowboys Team Coming Together after Big Win

October 4, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The sports betting world was not sure what to make of the Dallas Cowboys coming into the 2011-2012 season. The Cowboys just came off of an off-season full of controversy, distractions and a lock out. But something looked like it was clicking with the Cowboys when they took the field for week one. Even though the first game of the season was a loss to the New York Jets on national television, the Cowboys showed a new determination that had to have been born out of the new coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and head coach Jason Garrett have been nothing but positive the entire off-season, and now it looks like it is wearing off on the team.

You don’t have to go fishing very far for examples of how Tony Romo is developing as a player, teammate and leader. With a fractured rib and punctured lung, Romo went out and lead the Cowboys to a 2-1 record by beating the previously undefeated Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. When his center was having problems snapping in the shot gun, Romo took his center aside and calmed him down. When the Redskins did an all out blitz late in the game to try and neutralize Romo, the calm quarterback threw a key pass to wide receiver Dez Bryant that set up the game winning field goal. Romo’s toughness and leadership skills took a huge leap forward in a very important win for Dallas.

The NFL betting lines may not have counted on a Dallas win by field goals only in week three, but the Cowboys will take the win any way they can get it. The six field goals in a game is a Dallas Cowboys’ team rookie record for rookie kicker Dan Bailey. The win helped the team to gain confidence in Bailey as well as quarterback Tony Romo.

Another Dallas Cowboy who was playing to spite incredible pain was running back Felix Jones. Jones was hurt in week two against the San Francisco 49ers when he dislocated his shoulder. But NFL fans got to see a new side to Felix Jones when he went out and put up 115 rushing yards against an aggressive Washington Redskins defense. What made Jones’ performance even more noteworthy is that most of the yards were put up in the second half of the game. After 30 minutes of getting hit on a bad shoulder, Jones was able to go out and pick his game up even further in the second half to help the Cowboys grab the win.

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense stepped up in the team’s Monday night win as well. Dallas’ defense has been taking a verbal and physical beating for almost two seasons now, and it looked like that would continue as the Redskins’ offense pummeled the Cowboys’ defense in the first half. But in the second half the Cowboys pushed back, and the end result was a Dallas win. The new and gritty attitude of the Cowboys makes the week four game against the Detroit Lions one of the more difficult NFL picks of the week.
