The <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/nfl-week-1-dallas-cowboys-vs-washington-redskins/"title="Cowboys vs Redskins" >Cowboys gave us reason to be thankful on Thanksgiving, but will the be able to march up to New York and beat the Giants? The Cowboys lead the NFC East, currently they hold a one game lead over the Eagles and a two game lead over the Giants. So once again this week the Cowboys can guarantee they will stay alone in first place with a win.

The New York Giants have lost 5 of their last 6 games, the only win in that stretch came after the Giants bye week. Last week the New York Football Giants lost in Denver 26-6 and Eli Manning is reported to have a problem with his foot, and Brandon Jacobs continues his season filled with disappointment for anyone who has him in fantasy football.

My prediction is that the Cowboys will win a close game with a touchdown in the 4th quarter, Cowboys 24 Giants 17. If you are planning on betting on this game stay away from the over under unless the weather is bad, then take the under. Both of these offenses have lots of weapons, but have not been hitting on all cylinders making the over under risky.

The <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/football/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"target="_blank"title="Dallas Cowboys Current Articles" >Dallas Cowboys ran over the Seattle Seahawks to a tune of 38 – 17. The Cowboys have looked great in both of their wins over Atlanta and Seattle, but their real test will come this week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last Year: The Cowboys and Eagles split their two meetings, but the Eagles win over the Cowboys at the end of the season has left a bad taste in the mouths of Dallas Sports Fans. The Eagles thumped the Cowboys 44 – 6 in the final game of the 2008 season. The most disheartening part about this loss is that a win would have ensured the Cowboys a playoff spot and they lost by 38 points.

This Year: The Cowboys have improved their record with 2 impressive wins over the Falcons and Seahawks in recent weeks. Tony Romo has not thrown an interception in a few games and the team is getting healthy. The hated Eagles have been a very up and down team this year, they lost to the Raiders, but have posted impressive wins over the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/nfl-week-1-dallas-cowboys-vs-washington-redskins/"title="Cowboys vs Redskins" >Redskins and Giants in recent weeks. This game is pretty unpredictable, but Vegas has the Eagles winning by 3.

After last weeks win the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/football/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"target="_blank"title="Dallas Cowboys Current Articles" >Dallas Cowboys have 2 wins and 1 loss. The Cowboys rallied in the second half to beat the Panthers 21 – 7, and now face an undefeated Broncos team.

Denver Broncos
The Broncos have a new look this year thanks to the departure of head coach Mike Shanahan and Quarterback Jay Cutler. Josh McDaniels has taken over as the head coach of the Broncos, and his decisions have been questioned since it is believed that he is responsible for Jay Cutler’s departure. The Broncos wins have been over the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders. The Raiders and Browns have a combined record of 1 – 5 and the Broncos did not dominate Cincinnati in their 12 – 7 win, so in other words the Broncos are a very weak 3 – 0 and have not been tested. The Broncos WRs Barandon Marshall and Eddie Royal will test the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/nfl-week-1-dallas-cowboys-vs-washington-redskins/"title="Cowboys vs Redskins" >Cowboys secondary in this matchup.

Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys running back position is not looking as deep as it was at the beginning of the season due to Marion Barber and Felix Jones injuries. Felix is believed to be out for this game, and it is questionable whether Marion Barber will be available. Barber was a no show on the Cowboys Stadium sidelines for the Panthers game, the team is saying that he was getting treatment during the game. It is more likely that he was angry the Cowboys wouldn’t let him play, but you can decide for yourself. Running Back Tashard Choice was pressed into duty and did not disappoint, he ran for 82 yards and a TD and caught 4 balls for 36 more yards. Other roster news that came down this week is that Michael Jenkins is now the full time starting Corner Back for the Dallas Cowboys, he had been rotating with Orlando Scandrick who will now serve as the 3rd CB.

The College Football season kicks off this week, and all of the Big 12 teams will be in action. Iowa State will kick off the season on Thursday night against North Dakota State. The Opening week of the Big 12 Football season will actually have some interesting matchups. The rivalry game of the week will no doubt be between Colorado and Colorado State, which will take place in Boulder, CO. Two of this weeks games are top 25 matchups. Oklahoma State (9 – AP Poll) vs Georgia (13 – AP Poll) will face off in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Brigham Young University (20 – AP Poll) will square up with Oklahoma (3 – AP Poll) in Arlington, TX at the new home of the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/football/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"target="_blank"title="Dallas Cowboys Current Articles" >Dallas Cowboys, Cowboys Stadium. Texas and Oklahoma, the two juggernauts of the Big 12, are both returning their starting quarterbacks. Colt McCoy (Texas) and Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) were both Heisman candidates last year. The schedule of Big 12 Games for this week can be found below.

With their remarkable 2-0 victory over FIFA #1 Spain still fresh, the United States will take to the pitch in South Africa on Sunday looking for its first ever FIFA Confederations Cup title. The Yanks will take on the winner of the Brazil-South Africa match (set for Thursday) in a game no one expected the U.S. to be in.

If I had to bet on the opponent, I would say Brazil, but I didn’t think there was too much of a chance the U.S. would be celebrating after today’s match either.

DETAILS:

Who: United States vs. Brazil/South Africa

What: FIFA Confederations Cup Final

When: 1:30 pm Central time (ESPN)

Where: Johannesburg, South Africa

Besides being the first final for the United States in the Confederations Cup, this is also the first final ever for the U.S. in any FIFA competition ever. Heading into the match, Spain was the top-ranked team in the world in FIFA’s rankings. The United States sat 14th.

The first two games of the tournament saw Head Coach Bob Bradley’s U.S. team post two lackluster efforts – losing 3-1 to 2006 World Cup Champion Italy and 3-0 to world power Brazil. But a 3-0 U.S. win over Egypt on Sunday along with a 3-0 Brazil win over Italy got the U.S. into the semifinals where they posted a two goal victory.

Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey each scored goals and goalkeeper Tim Howard made several key saves to key the win.

The game on Sunday will be played in South Africa’s capital city of Johannesburg, as the host nation of South Africa is looking to upset power Brazil and create what would surely be one of the unlikeliest finals anyone could have imagined at the start of the tournament.

If the U.S. has any hope of winning, they will have to do so without midfielder Michael Bradley, who was sent off in the 87th minute due to a red card. Another key will be the defense, which was bolstered by the return of defender Carlos Bocanegra from an injured hamstring.

All of the defenders had a strong game along with Bocanegra. Jonathan Spector has been a stalwart at right back, starting every game in the tournament. Jay DeMerit and Ricardo Clark also turned in strong performances against the Spaniards.

The U.S. did not have many chances against Spain, but Altidore’s goal in the 27th minute set the tone. A similar play will be needed in the next game for the Americans if they hope to pull off another victory.

Hopefully the final will be an exciting one, as the effort against Spain from the U.S. came somewhat out of nowhere after some inconsistent international results. With strong defense and opportunities that can be turned into goals, the United States could be looking at flying home from Johannesburg with a first place trophy.
