The sports betting world is split on the prospects of the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys this season. The optimistic Cowboys’ fans point to an improved offense and top prospects at the defensive line. But detractors may have a more powerful argument as the Cowboys made some moves this week that removed some experience and size from the roster that may have been sorely needed for the upcoming season.

Two areas of issue for the Cowboys last year were the offensive line and defensive secondary. Prior to the final week of the preseason, the Cowboys released veteran center Andre Gurode and replaced him with second-year backup Phil Costa. The Cowboys have transformed their offensive line from a larger veteran unit to a smaller and younger group. Two of the starting offensive linemen for the Cowboys are rookies with two veterans and the second-year Costa at center. The Dallas line also got smaller with the changes and that may not help in the quest to keep quarterback Tony Romo healthy.

The Cowboys’ defense is not showing any real signs of improvement under new coordinator Rob Ryan’s new system. The secondary still looks out of position and has a tendency to get beat on long plays. In true Ryan fashion, the defensive coordinator says that he can see improvement and is not interested in whether or not the football betting online public can see it. But if the Cowboys are playing at full speed right now to implement the new defense, it is not showing up in the game stats. Once again, Ryan says that stats do not concern him and that Cowboys’ fans will be happy with what they see when the season starts.

The Cowboys coaching staff and management may have confidence in the team’s plans, but all of the changes in the Dallas lineup have some of the NFL players in the Cowboys wondering what is going on. The release of veteran Gurode seemed to hit a nerve with some players as veteran safety Gerald Sensabaugh was quoted as saying “Guys are getting moved around and I don’t know why.” On the heels of a bitter lockout, Sensabaugh commented on the “cutthroat” nature of football as a business. It seems that some players have still not forgiven the owners for the events that occurred this summer.

Cowboys fans may remember all of the legal problems that followed second-year receiver Dez Bryant in the off-season. With veteran wide receiver Roy Williams being released during the off-season, Bryant now finds himself as the number two receiver on the roster and he is taking his position seriously. The NFL betting picks often report on the challenges players face, but conquering those challenges sometimes gets lost. While Bryant has not completely turned a corner yet, he is working to be a better teammate and player to help the Cowboys win a championship.

After a little drama in the off-season that involved everything from golf to bass fishing to getting married, quarterback Tony Romo has said that he is ready for the season to start and is excited to get going. For a moment in the preseason, it looked like backup Stephen McGee may start to get first-team snaps in practice. But Romo is the starter and he is looking forward to the challenges this season has to offer.

Bet Eagle clients are gearing up for a busy time of year in Dallas as the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/texas-rangers/"title="Texas Rangers Current Articles" >Texas Rangers are headed into the stretch run to the playoffs, and they’ve got their hands full with Los Angeles in the American League West. However, the Cowboys are back and that threatens to grab all of the attention in your sports betting book.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers will be ready to head back home after a road trip that saw them lose four of their first five games in Toronto and Detroit, and they’ll be aiming to avoid a sweep in the Motor City on Thursday afternoon against the Tigers. That leaves the Rangers with a one-game lead over the Angels in the West ahead of that matinee with the Tigers, and Texas will head back home in time for the beginning of their weekend set against Cleveland, who are trying to keep pace with Detroit in the Central, so you know they’ll bring their A-game. Following that series, the Rangers will welcome Seattle to the Ballpark and will likely be the MLB betting favorites, but Texas has to get their act together and do the little things that they seem to have trouble with on the road.

<a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys

The lockout ended last week and the Cowboys wasted no time; the major releases were Roy Williams, Marion Barber, Marc Colombo and Kris Brown, while rookies Tyron Smith, DeMarco Murray and Bruce Carter were signed. Linemen Doug Free and Kyle Kosier were re-signed, and along with Smith, they’ll be counted on to keep quarterback Tony Romo on his feet. But you don’t need a Bet Online review to tell you that the Cowboys have to sort out their problems in the secondary, and they missed out on claiming cornerback Nmandi Asomugha, who signed with Dallas’ NFC East rivals from Philadelphia. There isn’t much else out there as Antonio Cromartie decided to re-sign with the New York Jets, so the Cowboys have to deal with who they have, and they can’t afford another season like 2010, when their secondary was lit up on a consistent basis. Philadelphia has improved (although Dallas fans should keep an eye on the contract discussions between DeSean Jackson and the Eagles), while the New York Giants should have a solid aerial attack and Washington…..well, the Eagles and Giants will be tough to stop. It’ll be interesting to see if the Cowboys can swing any more moves before Week 1 kicks off on September 11th in New York (technically, New Jersey) against the Jets. However, the Cowboys begin preseason action on August 11th at home against Denver, and they should be the sports betting favorites for that contest.

At 6:00 PM EST on Friday July 29, all chaos broke loose in the NFL free agency market as teams only had a few days to sign players. The sports betting experts were watching to see where key free agents such as Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha would end up, and Cowboys fans were hoping that the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys would improve their defense in some way on the open market.

When the dust settled, the NFL betting lines had definitely changed. But Cowboys fans were left wondering what the plan was at Valley Ranch and if the team was trying to gear up for a Super Bowl run. Last year was the ultimate in disappointment if you are a Cowboys fan. This year there have been some changes, but fans will have to see if it will be enough for the Cowboys to make it to the playoffs in 2011.

The first area to look at to see how the Cowboys did in free agency is to see what kind of activity Dallas had in the NFL open market. With all of the potential help that was out there in the defensive secondary, the Cowboys made no free agent signings. Asomugha, cornerback Antonio Cromartie from the Jets and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie from the Cardinals were all on the open market and none of them went to Dallas. Much to the dismay of Cowboys fans, Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie both went to the Philadelphia Eagles. A change like that in Philly could go a long way to pointing out the inadequacies of the Cowboys’ own defensive secondary.

The Cowboys did manage to keep some key players and prevent them from getting into the open market. Offensive tackle Doug Free was going to be a hot free agent until the Cowboys signed him to a four-year deal. Defensive end Marcus Spears was retained by Dallas, along with offensive guard Kyle Kosier.

The betonline reviews on the players that the Cowboys let go is mixed. Veteran wide receiver Roy Williams never seemed to fit in to the Dallas offense, so letting him go was a natural move. Running back Marion Barber became part of a crowded Dallas backfield and was the odd-man out. Offensive tackle Marc Colombo and defensive end Stephen Bowen could have been contributors to the Cowboys’ success in 2011, but both were allowed to leave the team via free agency.

The one player that has not been signed by the Cowboys, or any other team at this point, that stands out is safety Gerald Sensabaugh. The Dallas Cowboys have continually ignored their weaknesses in the defensive backfield for the past two or three years. When quality players are available in free agency, the Cowboys do no pursue them. When the Cowboys needed a safety or offensive lineman in the 2010 draft, they took wide receiver Dez Bryant instead.

With Sensabaugh still not signed to a contract, it shows that the Cowboys feel that they have a plan in the backfield but they are unwilling to let anyone know what that plan may be. New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has his hands full trying to put together a defense that can compete for Dallas. Considering the moves that Dallas made in free agency, Ryan’s job just got more difficult.

ABC per head customers in the Dallas area have probably had a busy week between the baseball diamond and the football field as the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/texas-rangers/"title="Texas Rangers Current Articles" >Texas Rangers now have to share the sports betting spotlight with the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys now that the NFL lockout is over. The Rangers are aiming to improve their team ahead of the trade deadline on Sunday, while the Cowboys are trying to make a splash via free agency.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers ended the week poorly after winning two of three at home against Toronto last weekend, but all is not lost; they can still earn a split of their four-game set at the Ballpark against Minnesota with a win on Thursday night against the Twins. Texas exploded for 20 runs on 27 hits in the first game of the series, but MLB betting players watched Neftali Feliz continue to have a strange campaign as he blew his fifth save of the year in a 9-8 loss, and then the Rangers were thumped 7-2 on Wednesday night. The Rangers will head to Toronto and Detroit next week, and it’ll be interesting to see what the team looks like by the time they arrive in the Motor City, as Texas is in the running to acquire closer Heath Bell from San Diego, but they missed out on slugger Carlos Beltran, who was dealt by the New York Mets to the San Francisco Giants.

Dallas Cowboys

Whatever attention the CFL was getting will now be taken over by the NFL as the lockout ended on Monday, and the Cowboys have been hot on the heels of free-agent cornerback Nmandi Asomugha, who would really provide a spark in a secondary that was often burned last season. A number of players have been or are on their way to being released, such as running back Marion Barber, receiver Roy Williams, tackle Marc Colombo and kicker Kris Brown, among others. One signing that the Cowboys did make was tackle Doug Free, who received a four-year deal worth $32 million, and Dallas knows that they have keep quarterback Tony Romo on the field after last season’s broken clavicle. Guard Kyle Kosier was also re-signed to a three-year deal worth $9 million, and they will be joined up front by rookie tackle Tyron Smith and center Andre Gurode, but they have to find a replacement for guard Leonard Davis, who is on his way out of Dallas. Now, look for the Cowboys to focus their efforts on Asomugha, the jewel of the free-agent market and one of the top three cornerbacks in the game. If the Cowboys can lure him to “Jerry’s World”, look for their sports betting odds to make a move.

Sports betting football fans were glad to hear that the lockout is finally over and the players can get back to work. But the NFL betting lines on what free agent pick-ups the Cowboys will make are a little blurry as the Cowboys enter free agency almost $20 million over the cap. That is no small amount of change, and the Cowboys still need to sign players such as right offensive tackle Mark Colombo.

But, in his true NFL maverick fashion, Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones insists that Dallas has plenty of room under the $120 million cap to sign existing free agents, get new free agents and sign draft picks. The Cowboys even figure to be players in the race to sign free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha from the Oakland Raiders.

It is obvious that Jones needs to start making some cuts in order to get under his cap number and still be able to put a competitive team on the field. Some surprising names that have come up in recent rumors are wide receiver Roy Williams and quarterback Tony Romo. But more realistic speculation has Colombo being released and possibly even offensive lineman Doug Free. This will not be an easy time at Valley Ranch as Jerry Jones and his front office have some very difficult decisions to make.

The cloud of bad behavior that has been hanging over Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant seems to have returned. Despite his insistence that all of his past debts have been paid, Bryant and his advisor David Wells are being sued by jeweler Eleow Hunt for almost $600,000 in jewelry, cash advances and tickets to sporting events. Bryant had recently declared that all of his past misgivings are behind him and he is looking forward to the start of the 2011 season. But with a January 2012 court date hanging over his head, Bryant is far from out of the financial woods.

With the lockout over and players preparing to meet with their coaches, Cowboys tight end Jason Witten gave a betonline review of the player-organized workouts. Witten conceded that the players would have benefited from more time with their new coaching staff, but he was also quick to point out that the players learned a lot about working as a team when they ran their own practices.

Witten indicated that the bonding and learning experiences the players had during the lockout will go a long way to helping the coaches to implement new offensive and defensive systems. The players took the time to understand the effectiveness of certain practice drills, and worked on their own systems that they believe will help enhance the new coaching staff’s ideas.

After much speculation as to where the Cowboys will open training camp, the Cowboys announced tentative plans to open camp at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Dallas has held camp in San Antonio in the past, and the festival-like atmosphere is something that the players and coaches seem to enjoy. Camp opens in San Antonio this Thursday, and the Cowboys will stay in the Alamodome until August 10th.

The sports betting world was not surprised when it was announced that former Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders would be inducted into the hall of fame this summer. NFL betting lines experts consider Sanders to be one of the best cornerbacks to ever play the game, and he has the Super Bowl rings to prove it. The sports betting bonus for fans of Deion Sanders is that they finally get to meet Sanders’ long-time agent Eugene Parker. At the induction ceremony, it will be Parker that introduces Sanders and presents “Prime Time” for his induction.

Sanders is more known for his flash and dancing than his play. But anyone that has played with, or against, Deion Sanders knows that there were few cornerbacks better at cutting off his side of the field that Sanders. Sanders finished his 14-year NFL career with 53 interceptions, nine defensive touchdowns and nine kicks returned for a touchdown. He was a six-time first team all-pro and was the 1994 defensive player of the year.

While all of the positive activity has been swirling around Sanders lately, the hall of fame cornerback took some time to reflect on Cowboys’ second-year receiver Dez Bryant. When Bryant entered the league, Sanders was asked to mentor the young receiver. Bryant first caused a stir when he refused to carry veteran receiver Roy Williams’ pads in training camp which is a common rookie tradition. Then Bryant made headlines in the off-season when he was sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry he never paid for, was thrown out of a Dallas area mall for being disruptive and skipped a meeting with Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones when the lockout was on hold for 24-hours.

Deion Sanders gave up on Bryant and publicly walked away from the young receiver. According to Sanders, the first-round NFL pick in 2010 is surrounded by “yes people” that enable the receiver’s bad behavior. Sanders fears that, unless Bryant makes some changes to his lifestyle, he could headed for more trouble.

It looks like Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones knew exactly what he was doing when he told the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX to start preparing for Cowboys’ training camp. According to sources from both the owners’ side and the players’ side, a new collective bargaining agreement could be in place as soon as July 21. When pressed on the issue by the media, both sides maintain that they are extremely confident that the CBA will be in place in time for training camps.

The only issue holding up the signing of the contract is the length of rookie contracts and the rate of rookie pay. The owners want to limit rookie contracts, and the players are trying to maintain a higher threshold for pay and contract duration. But, both sides say that this issue is not enough to prolong the lockout by more than seven to 10 days. Once the CBA is ratified, the league will open free agency and will expect all players to report to camp.

Sports betting experts watched as the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys’ offense functioned effectively last season even though starting quarterback Tony Romo missed most of the season with a broken collarbone. With the changes coming to the Cowboys offense for 2011 which include a return by Romo and the possible exit of running back Marion Barber, online casino wagering football fans are starting to think that the Cowboys have the makings of the best offense in the NFC.

If the Cowboys can get production from last year’s number one pick wide receiver Dez Bryant, then the sportsbook promo crowd is thinking that the Cowboys receiving corps is the best in the NFC. Along with Bryant would be veteran Roy Williams and number one receiver Miles Austin. Tashard Choice and Felix Jones would carry the ball for the Cowboys behind an offensive line that could use a little help. The only place the Cowboys seem vulnerable on offense is at the offensive tackle position. Dallas is hoping that the current roster can help fill in those important spots.

No one is sure when free agency will start up again, but the Philadelphia Eagles have already indicated that they will be making a lot of NFL picks to help bolster Philly’s chances at a playoff spot. The Eagles put the Cowboys and New York Giants on notice that the NFC East will be competitive this year as the Eagles intend to win the division through improving their team in the offseason.

Even though the players are not on the field right now, the media is still evaluating the play from last year and handing out accolades. In a recent USA Today poll of professional football media experts, DeMarcus Ware was voted as the best outside linebacker currently in the league. Ware’s ability to rush the passer and stop the run makes him an all-around linebacker that the rest of the league is taking note of.

While DeMarcus Ware was getting recognized for his play, the rest of the Dallas defense is still on notice about their play last year. New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has not had a chance to work extensively with a unit that gave up a lot of points and a lot of yards last year. The weakest point in the Dallas defense is the defensive secondary. It is difficult to dial up a blitz when there is no confidence that the secondary will be able to contain the receivers. The Cowboys drafted some top rated defensive secondary players, but it will be Ryan’s use of his personnel that will determine how successful the defense will be.

As most of the players sit at home and wonder when they will be able to get to the practice field again, players’ representatives and NFL owners try to hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement. But it looks like the owners’ coalition is fragmenting as some owners are resisting the terms being discussed and are trying to negotiate with the players on their own. This week is a critical week as Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones and the rest of the NFL owners meet to try and get on the same page and bring the lockout to an end.

The sports betting world has been getting little pieces of information here and there that indicate an end to the NFL owners’ lockout of the players could be on the horizon. Dallas sports fans have been spending their time this summer betting on MLB games and following the success of the NBA’s <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-mavericks/"title="Dallas Mavericks Current Articles" >Dallas Mavericks. But while the rest of the sports betting bonus fans were focused on other Dallas sporting activities, Cowboys fans have been hearing about the lockout workouts their team is going through.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was one of the first players in the NFL to organize workouts for his team, and 45 players showed up including some of the NFL picks from this year’s draft. But, apparently, the workouts only exist so long as Romo is there. The workouts slowed down when Tony Romo went to get married, and now the workouts will stop completely as Romo heads off to his honeymoon. None of the other Dallas players have stepped up to continue the workouts in Romo’s absence. Romo did say that workouts will resume when he returns from his honeymoon.

Tony Romo threw another monkey wrench into the team’s workout plans when he became the second seed in the Wisconsin State Golf Association’s Match Play tournament. Romo is a regular participant in this tournament, but his appearance pushes team workouts back even further. Other Cowboys players have said that they expect the team to get back together for workouts in July.

The <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys have always been known as a sort of haven for big name wide receivers at various points in their careers. So when news came that commissioner Roger Goodell will be re-instating Plaxico Burress, who was recently released from prison for shooting himself in the leg two years ago, the rumors started to circulate that the Cowboys may have an interest in the former Super Bowl champion receiver.

After spending the last two or three years re-organizing his wide receiver corps, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has not expressed any interest in bringing Burress to Dallas. With a depth chart that consists of Roy Williams, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, the Cowboys do not need to take on the project that Burress will be. Plaxico Burress has not played professional football in two years, and he is publicly rehabilitating himself much like Michael Vick did. While the Vick story had a happy ending, and the Burress story has the same potential at success, it will not be with the Dallas Cowboys.

Many Cowboys fans remember the image of linebacker Godfrey Myles seriously injuring himself in a touchdown celebration in Super Bowl XXVII. Myles went on to work in the athletic department at the University of Florida. Last week, Myles suffered a stroke and passed away. He played in 76 games for the Cowboys during the 1990’s glory years, including 11 starts in 1995. The University of Florida made the announcement via Twitter late last week.

Sports betting experts started to wonder about the character of Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant when Bryant refused to carry the pads of veteran wide receiver Roy Williams at Cowboys’ training camp last year. Carrying the pads of a veteran player has been a rookie ritual in the NFL for as long as the football has been brown, and Bryant’s refusal made headlines. Some of his teammates defended Bryant, others backed off the situation. But it should have been a warning sign.

As March Madness betting starts to reach its peak, Dez Bryant finds himself in the middle of controversy again, but this time it is off the field. The sportsbook promo experts have watched as the relationship between hall of famer Deion Sanders and Dez Bryant has broken down completely over an incident in a Dallas mall. Bryant was asked by mall security to adjust his pants so his underwear was not showing and Bryant went ballistic on the security guard. The incident caused Bryant to be banned from the mall and it caused Deion to publicly call Bryant a troublemaker.

To make matters worse, Bryant was recently named in two separate lawsuits that allege he owes almost $500,000 for jewelry and professional sporting event tickets. The betting services were a bit shocked to find out that a millionaire football player was being sued for not paying his bills, especially when everyone knows that Bryant has the money. The Cowboys are not issuing any statements on Bryant’s off the field problems, but Sanders has come out and said that Bryant needs to learn to stop being selfish and act like a professional athlete.

More details have started to surface about a story that was reported when the NFL lockout first occurred. Jerry Jones and the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys were fined for unauthorized contact with the players, and it should be a fine that Jones is happy to pay. What happened was that several defensive players decided to ignore the lockout and start working with new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. The fine came from the league when the league office learned that the players were working on the new defensive scheme with Ryan. Jerry Jones has not commented on the fine, but the dedication of his players and coaches should make him able to justify the payment.

The process for getting on the cover the Madden franchise of football video games has evolved into a one on one competition for the players. The Cowboys one entry into the competition was linebacker DeMarcus Ware. Ware squared off against Michael Vick to play the most recent version of the Madden video game to earn the right to move on to the next round. Ware lost to Vick and is out of the competition as Michael Vick moves closer to becoming the player on the cover of the new Madden NFL video game.

The Cowboys received a little help from the league when Dallas was awarded a seventh round draft pick in the compensatory lottery that was held last week. These are picks awarded to teams whose free agent losses were greater than their free agent gains. The Cowboys received one pick out of the 21 handed out.

After the 45-7 trouncing that the <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/category/dallas-cowboys-nfl/"title="Dallas Cowboys News" >Dallas Cowboys received on national television against the Green Bay Packers, most NFL betting experts were betting that Wade Phillips would not be the head coach when the Cowboys head into week 11 to face the New York Giants. That was one of the few NFL predictions surrounding the Cowboys that has come true so far. The NFL scores may not be on the Cowboys side, but at least owner Jerry Jones is starting to recognize that there is a serious problem in Dallas.

When the Green Bay game ended, Jerry Jones was quoted as saying that some people in his organization would face “serious consequences” for the Cowboys’ 1-7 start. So far the only person to experience those consequences is Wade Phillips. For the first time in their history, the Dallas Cowboys fired a head coach during the season. Assistant head coach <a href="http://www.dallassportsfans.com/jason-garrett-to-be-cowboys-new-head-coach/"title="Jason Garret to be named Cowboys Head Coach" >Jason Garrett takes over as only the seventh head coach in Dallas Cowboys history. Garrett was also the offensive coordinator and he will retain that job as he moves into the head coaching job.

The interest now is to see what Jerry Jones will do with the head coaching job when the season is over. Jason Garrett was lured into staying in Dallas with a $3.5 million per year contract when at least two other teams wanted him as their head coach. Garrett turned down those NFL head coaching jobs to stay in Dallas and take over when Phillips was gone, but now that Phillips is gone it is not a slam dunk that Garrett will take over next season as the full-time head coach.

Garrett is seen by many as part of the problem in Dallas. He does not command a lot of respect in the locker room, and his offensive schemes and decisions have not brought the Cowboys a lot of good fortune this season. There is a growing feeling in Dallas that Garrett may not get the Cowboys head coaching job and that he will have to head to another NFL city to take over as the head man.

One of the leading early candidates who is getting a lot of mentions as the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach John Gruden. Gruden is currently an analyst with ESPN Monday Night Football, and his no-nonsense approach and stern demeanor may be just what the Cowboys locker room needs.

During the Green Bay game, Dallas wide receiver Roy Williams was delivered a shot to the back of his head by the helmet of Packers linebacker Nick Collins. The NFL announced Monday that the hit was illegal and fined Collins $50,000. Collins was also given a warning that future hits of that nature will result in more fines and possibly a suspension. Roy Williams did not suffer a concussion and will be ready to play against the upcoming week 11 game against Giants.
