Dallas Cowboys Update: Things are Coming Together for the Cowboys

November 15, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The online betting crowd can see the stars starting to align for the Dallas Cowboys, but everyone is trying to avoid getting over-confident. In week 10, the Cowboys blasted the Buffalo Bills 44-7 for Dallas’ second win in a row. The team is now 5-4 and in the thick of the hunt for the NFC East title. The next three Dallas opponents have a combined record of 8-19 with the next up being the Washington Redskins. After the Redskins, the Cowboys have games against the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals. Miami and Arizona have shown that they are weak teams that are capable of winning on any given week. But those are two more games the Cowboys could win.

Not only could the Cowboys’ price per head record be 8-4 after the next three games, Dallas has also discovered a running game with DeMarco Murray that it never knew it had. With Murray teamed up with running back Felix Jones in the Dallas backfield, the two will make a formidable combination.

The one thing that the Cowboys are missing is pay per head veteran wide receiver Miles Austin who will be out another one to three weeks with a hamstring injury. There were rumors that the Cowboys may be thinking of signing a veteran wide receiver to pick up the slack for a set of receivers that seems to get hurt a lot. But Dallas found out in the Buffalo game that it is deep at wide receiver and does not need to make any moves. Receivers such as Laurent Robinson and Jesse Holley were able to step up, and don’t forget about veteran tight end Jason Witten’s contributions as well.

The bet online stars have aligned for a former Cowboy as Tashard Choice will be able to play against the Cowboys in week 11. Choice was released on October 31 and signed by the Redskins. Choice had an injured shoulder when he was let go by Dallas, so he could not play his first few games as a Redskin. But he is ready to go and says he is anxious to play against his former teammates.

When Choice was released by Dallas, it was done because the Cowboys felt that DeMarco Murray was enough of a stud that he could carry the team until Felix Jones returns. With Jones ready to come back, the Cowboys now have the running game that it thought it had when Jones and Marion Barber were in the Dallas backfield. Barber turned out to be injury-prone and wildly inconsistent with his production and did not give the balance to the running game that Dallas was hoping for.

Murray gives NFL fans in Dallas something to cheer about, and he also helps to take a lot of pressure off of quarterback Tony Romo. Many observers think that the problems the Cowboys were having were due to the fact that Dallas had to rely on Romo with no running game. The emergence of a running game, and the Cowboys recent turn around towards a winning record, are not a coincidence in the eyes of many fans and sports observers.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Jason Garrett Comes Under Fire

October 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

As the Breeder’s Cup betting gets underway, the Dallas Cowboys find itself with a 2-3 record and a whole new list of issues. When the season started, it was emotional second-year wide receiver Dez Bryant who was calling out teammates and trying to get the Cowboys inspired. When that didn’t work, the media and Cowboys organization turned to the common tactic of criticism.

The first victim of Cowboys criticism was quarterback Tony Romo. The price per head fans in Dallas are not convinced that Romo is the one that can lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl run and they are voicing their opinions at Cowboys’ home games. It did not help when hall of fame cornerback Deion Sanders came out and publicly said that Tony Romo is not the right quarterback for a deep playoff run. The Tony Romo debate continues as another point of contention arises for fans and team owners alike.

Head coach Jason Garrett is the newest high profile Cowboy under scrutiny. Garrett’s ability to read a situation and make the right play calls are being questioned by the fans, media and team owner Jerry Jones. When the Cowboys blew a 24-point lead to the Detroit Lions, Garrett’s play-calling was referred to as being too aggressive. After the loss the next week to the New England Patriots, Garrett was said to be too passive in his game management decisions.

The price per head bookmaking experts were a bit surprised to hear the team owner call out the coach. But everyone was shocked when Garrett dismissed Jones’ comments and indicated that he would continue to coach the team his way. For his part, Jones has already indicated that he will not fire Garrett in the middle of the season. The negative emotions of firing former head coach Wade Philips at mid-season last year still linger for Jones and he said he is not interested in repeating that.

A bodog review of the Dallas loss to New England in week six clouds the Cowboys’ season with the list of Cowboys who sustained injuries in that game. The most notable injury is the leg injury to left offensive guard Bill Nagy that will end the season for Nagy. The Cowboys were already struggling on the offensive line and losing the veteran lineman is not going to help the situation.

Another notable injury from the New England loss is the high ankle sprain of running back Felix Jones. With the Cowboys already looking to trade a disgruntled Tashard Choice, the offensive backfield is getting thin. It would be a betonline scam to expect Jones back on the field any time soon. The team is saying two to four weeks for Jones. But players that have had a high ankle sprain know that it can take weeks to properly heal and, even if Jones returns before the end of the season, there is a good chance that he will not be at 100 percent until next year.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Three New Additions to the Cowboys’ Ring on Honor

August 23, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The Dallas Cowboys have always been proud of its tradition and have revered the players that have helped to establish the Cowboys’ winning tradition. Sports betting Dallas Cowboys’ fans will be honoring three men who are part of that tradition when Drew Pearson, Charles Haley and Larry Allen are added to the Dallas Ring of Honor in Cowboys Stadium.

The last time that three players were inducted together into the Ring of Honor was in 2005 when Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin were inducted together. While Pearson, Haley and Allen don’t have quite the connection that the “Triplets” did, they are still remembered by football betting online Cowboys’ fans as three key players in maintaining the Dallas dominance of the NFL from the mid-1970’s through to the 1990’s.

The Cowboys are starting to get healthy again at running back as Tashard Choice is getting closer to being able to play again and rookie DeMarco Murray has been cleared to play by the Dallas medical staff. Murray was sidelined early in training camp with a pulled hamstring that has now healed enough where he can start taking snaps at practice. Murray joins an uncertain backfield that consists of the previously mentioned Choice and stalwart Felix Jones. NFL analysts know what Jones can do, but Choice is an unproven player and Murray’s rookie status makes him a question mark in the offensive backfield.

After the Cowboys lost their second preseason game to the San Diego Chargers 20-7, head coach Jason Garrett pointed out two areas where the Cowboys need to improve if it wants to win in 2011. The first is in the turnover department. Three times the Cowboys had a drive stalled in the San Diego end of the field with a turnover. But the Cowboys could not get a turnover in return. The head coach points to a lack of discipline and an inability to protect the ball as the reasons for the turnovers.

The other area that Garrett is concerned about is the play of starting quarterback Tony Romo. Even though Romo was part of lockout workouts and has been throwing to his receivers for a couple of months now, he did not look sharp and wound up throwing an interception as one of the Cowboys turnovers. Garrett vows to address the issues and get his team ready for the start of the regular season.

It could be because they have a lack of other choices, but the Cowboys coaching staff is high on one of their NFL picks at cornerback and that is Orlando Scandrick. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has predicted that Scandrick will have a big year this year and show the rest of the league what he is capable of. The Cowboys lost out on signing prized free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha in the off-season, and now they are trying to piece together a defensive secondary that can win games and give the Cowboys a chance to make the playoffs.

Dallas Sports Fan – An In-Depth Look At The Cowboys’ Preseason Opener

August 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Even MLB baseball betting players have to understand that in Dallas, the Cowboys rule the headlines, even though Texas was in the World Series last year and the Mavericks just won the NBA title. The Cowboys have just one playoff win since 1996, but they’re still the stars of the city and they opened their preseason slate last Thursday at home against Denver, coming away with a last-minute victory.

Dallas Cowboys

It was just good to see Tony Romo back on the field after he missed most of last year with a broken clavicle, and he went 3-of-5 for 33 yards in a 24-23 victory. You knew that Romo wasn’t going to play a lot, especially in the first game, but it was still comforting for coach Jason Garrett to see him executing the offense. Stephen McGee had a huge game, going 14-of-24 for 208 yards, three touchdowns and a pick and he also added 25 yards on four carries, showing NFL betting players that Jon Kitna may have a little competition for the backup role. The Cowboys got some production from Philip Tanner on the ground as Tashard Choice and rookie DeMarco Murray were injured, although they should be ready to go for Sunday’s contest against San Diego, also at home.

Defensively, the Cowboys allowed the Broncos to throw for 238 yards and a score, which shows that they still have a lot of work to do in the secondary, an area that was torched last season. The Broncos also ran for 119 yards, but we should get a clearer picture of how the Cowboys stack up this week as the starters didn’t get much time. The secondary also received some bad news as cornerback Terence Newman has a groin issue and it’s up in the air whether he’ll be in the lineup for the regular-season opener, so keep an eye on that situation.

Those making NFL betting picks shouldn’t take too much from this game, which is basically a glorified scrimmage, but it was good to see McGee getting some reps and leading a drive that resulted in a score with 15 seconds left to win the game. He needs as much confidence as possible because let’s face it, Kitna isn’t going to be around forever (although we keep saying that). The Chargers will be a better test for the Cowboys as the Broncos don’t have a great defense, and San Diego’s unit was ranked first in the league last season. Still, it was a solid performance for the Cowboys to get their season off on a positive note, and they didn’t harm their online sports betting odds with their effort.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Dallas Still Looking for Answers on the Offensive Line

August 16, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line has always been a work in progress that the Cowboys have never done much work on. Dallas drafted two offensive linemen in the 2011 draft, but sports betting experts keep saying that the Cowboys need to sign more free agent depth on the offensive line. With the latest string of offensive line injuries, the Cowboys are feeling the effects of a lack of planning.

Veteran left guard Montrae Holland has a back injury that could cause him to miss significant time for the Cowboys. In his place, the football betting online Cowboys fans are watching fourth-round pick David Arkin and seventh-round pick Bill Nagy trying to see who will take Holland’s place. Arkin has had a good camp but Nagy was shaky in the preseason opener against Denver. With no veterans to turn to on the depth chart, the Cowboys could be opening up a huge hole on the offensive line that may be difficult to fill.

Another stand-in on the offensive line was back-up Phil Costa. Costa is still questionable as to whether or not he will make the final roster. But his performance against the Broncos drew praise from his head coach and Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones. The Cowboys are considering Costa as one additional option to try and put together an offensive line that can keep Tony Romo healthy.

While there is no quarterback controversy in Dallas, third string quarterback Stephen McGee stole the show for the Cowboys against the Broncos. Starter Tony Romo played very sparingly in the first quarter, and then McGee took over. McGee went 14 for 24 in the game with 208 passing yards and three touchdowns. It was an impressive performance that put some confidence in the Cowboys’ coaching staff that they have some options if Tony Romo gets hurt again.

Stephen McGee took advantage of the fact that back-up quarterback Jon Kitna was down with a bad back. Rookie defensive end Clifton Geathers too advantage of the fact that the Cowboys need pass rushers and took his opportunity to shine on defense. Geathers had a tackle and an assisted tackle in the game, and he was also the only Cowboy to register a sack. Geathers will be a player that other NFL teams will be watching all season long.

Linebacker Keith Brooking and running back Tashard Choice were both held out of the Denver game along with Kitna. Brooking and Choice are nursing nagging injuries that should not keep them from playing in the season opener. Choice is expected to play in at least one preseason game, while Brooking may wait until opening day to make his first appearance.

The cornerback position is another area where the Cowboys need some help. That is why the emergence of Orlando Scandrick is such a refreshing thing to see for Dallas. Scandrick has been stepping into the role of a nickel cornerback and hopes to be one of the NFL betting picks to make the Cowboys’ roster this season.

Dallas Sports Fan – Rangers Hanging On In AL West, Cowboys Kick Off Preseason Slate

August 11, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Those who bet football online are gearing up for the beginning of preseason as the NFL prepares to kick off on Thursday night, and Dallas will be on the schedule to show their fans and sports betting players alike what they’re working with. But first, start with baseball where Texas is holding off Los Angeles in the American League West, and the two will face off this week.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers are off on Thursday as they head out on the road after a six-game homestand in which they went 4-2, taking two of three from Cleveland and Seattle. This next week is the time to pay close attention to MLB baseball news, though, as the Rangers begin a 10-game road trip that begins in Oakland against the Athletics, but the big story will start on Monday as the Rangers will be Los Angeles (technically, Anaheim) to face the Angels. While these two American League West clubs still meet six times after next week’s series, this four-game set is going to be huge for a number of reasons. However, that doesn’t mean they can look past the Athletics, who have been on the road since the beginning of the month and will be happy to be back on the West Coast.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys begin their preseason slate against Denver at home, and there will be a couple of reasons to watch this game, other than the fact that football is back and you don’t need a lot of reasons. Tony Romo should get his first game action since Week 6 of last year, when he was knocked out of the lineup and even though he’ll only play one or two series, it’ll be good to have him on the field. Also, the Cowboys have some rookies who were solid NFL picks in the draft and they should get some action; offensive tackle Tyron Smith, linebacker Bruce Carter and running back Demarco Murray should all see some time, and Murray is one to watch as news has emerged that the Cowboys may be parting ways with Tashard Choice, who is currently injured. Murray has a chance to move into a backfield that already has Felix Jones, so he’ll want to take advantage of his opportunities. Things don’t really start to pick up in the preseason until the third game, but the lockout has made this preseason different because players just got together two weeks ago, and there was a lot of free-agent movement. A lot of people are playing with each other for the first time, so that could lend more intensity to this game, making them a tough call in your sports betting book.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Preseason Starts with New Questions

August 9, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The sports betting fans in Dallas are getting ready for a preseason they did not think would happen. But the Dallas Cowboys seem to be filled with more questions than answers as the team prepares to take on the Denver Broncos Thursday in the preseason opener. Changes in some key positions, and no changes in other positions, have created tense moments for the Cowboys’ fans who are unsure as to what to expect in 2011.

Felix Jones prepares to take on the role of the primary running back after the departure of Marion Barber in the off-season. But NFL betting lines fans remember Jones as the running back that could not stay healthy his first two seasons. Barber was the one that was carrying the load for Dallas while Jones was hurt. When Jones was able to play, he was an electric and exciting running back. But fans are wondering if the loss of Barber will give more time to new back-up running back Tashard Choice as opposed to allowing Jones to flourish as the starter.

The biggest question floating around Valley Ranch involves the Dallas defense. The one major change made to the Cowboys’ defensive unit was new coordinator Rob Ryan. Aside from that, the players on the field are the exact same unit as last year. The defensive secondary was unable to keep up with some offensive opponents, and the defensive line had issues in containing the run. But the Cowboys feel that a change in scheme will help the current players to be more successful and bring out the best in this defensive unit.

NFL fans in Dallas remember Kyle Kosier as being an effective left tackle in the 2010 season. But the addition of rookie right guard Tyron Smith in the 2011 draft means that Kosier will be playing right tackle in 2011. The move does make sense. Kosier has a comfort level on the right side, and he can work with the rookie Smith to develop his skills. That also gives veteran left tackle Doug Free the chance to work with rookie left guard David Arkin. Having two rookies at guard is a risk that the Cowboys are willing to take. It may help an offensive line that had a lot of problems last season, or it could be another step backwards for the Cowboys’ offensive unit.

The Dallas Cowboys love taking their training camp show on the road, but the shortened training camp this season made it difficult for the Cowboys to make multiple stops on their way to Valley Ranch. The Alamodome in San Antonio has been one of the homes of the Dallas Cowboys training camp for the past few years, but the Cowboys are not committing to coming back in 2012. Each team in the NFL picks its training camp sites for extended periods of four and five years. Now is the time for the Cowboys to re-sign their five-year commitment to the Alamodome, and the Cowboys are not certain that they want to do that just yet.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Cowboys Offense is Ready to Attack

June 21, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Sports betting experts watched as the Dallas Cowboys’ offense functioned effectively last season even though starting quarterback Tony Romo missed most of the season with a broken collarbone. With the changes coming to the Cowboys offense for 2011 which include a return by Romo and the possible exit of running back Marion Barber, online casino wagering football fans are starting to think that the Cowboys have the makings of the best offense in the NFC.

If the Cowboys can get production from last year’s number one pick wide receiver Dez Bryant, then the sportsbook promo crowd is thinking that the Cowboys receiving corps is the best in the NFC. Along with Bryant would be veteran Roy Williams and number one receiver Miles Austin. Tashard Choice and Felix Jones would carry the ball for the Cowboys behind an offensive line that could use a little help. The only place the Cowboys seem vulnerable on offense is at the offensive tackle position. Dallas is hoping that the current roster can help fill in those important spots.

No one is sure when free agency will start up again, but the Philadelphia Eagles have already indicated that they will be making a lot of NFL picks to help bolster Philly’s chances at a playoff spot. The Eagles put the Cowboys and New York Giants on notice that the NFC East will be competitive this year as the Eagles intend to win the division through improving their team in the offseason.

Even though the players are not on the field right now, the media is still evaluating the play from last year and handing out accolades. In a recent USA Today poll of professional football media experts, DeMarcus Ware was voted as the best outside linebacker currently in the league. Ware’s ability to rush the passer and stop the run makes him an all-around linebacker that the rest of the league is taking note of.

While DeMarcus Ware was getting recognized for his play, the rest of the Dallas defense is still on notice about their play last year. New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has not had a chance to work extensively with a unit that gave up a lot of points and a lot of yards last year. The weakest point in the Dallas defense is the defensive secondary. It is difficult to dial up a blitz when there is no confidence that the secondary will be able to contain the receivers. The Cowboys drafted some top rated defensive secondary players, but it will be Ryan’s use of his personnel that will determine how successful the defense will be.

As most of the players sit at home and wonder when they will be able to get to the practice field again, players’ representatives and NFL owners try to hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement. But it looks like the owners’ coalition is fragmenting as some owners are resisting the terms being discussed and are trying to negotiate with the players on their own. This week is a critical week as Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones and the rest of the NFL owners meet to try and get on the same page and bring the lockout to an end.

Dallas Cowboys Update: It Is a Tony Romo World that We are Living In

May 31, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The sports betting experts are still not convinced that the NFL season will start on time, if at all. As the 2011 Belmont betting approaches, the NFL players and owners are still locked in a labor dispute that seems to be playing out in the courts rather than at the negotiating table. While the Belmont betting presses on, lawyers from the players’ side and the owners’ side sit by and wait for a court to give a final decision on the legality of the lockout. In the meantime, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been getting plenty of press lately.

Top football insiders such as Vic Carucci and Steve Wyche are speculating on the future of Tony Romo if the 2011 season turns out to be a bust. The general consensus is that the 2011 season is the one where Romo needs to establish himself as the starting quarterback by taking a leadership role, winning games in the regular season, winning games in the playoffs and staying healthy. If Romo cannot deliver this season, then the Cowboys may use one of their NFL picks next year to start over again at quarterback.

In other Romo-related news, Tony Romo and former television news reporter Candice Crawford were married over the weekend in a ceremony attended by many of the Cowboys’ royalty. Owner Jerry Jones was on hand, and former Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman was also on hand to witness the event. Romo scheduled the wedding in between training sessions that he is holding with his team in an undisclosed Dallas location.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has been mulling over the team’s needs during this lockout. Last season, Dallas had some strong needs at positions such as offensive line and defensive safety that the team refused to address. This year, Jones has indicated that if free agency ever starts up again, the Cowboys will be in the market for new safeties. Jones did not address the hole that remains at offensive line, or what will become of running backs Felix Jones, Marion Barber and Tashard Choice. But the prevailing feeling is that Barber may be the odd-man out in this situation.

Troubled wide receiver Dez Bryant has been participating in the player-run workouts, and many within the organization feel that spending more time with his teammates is helping Bryant sort out his personal issues. Bryant ran into problems during the offseason when he was banned from a Dallas shopping mall for creating a disturbance and then being sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry he has not paid for. Bryant made headlines again when he was supposed to meet with owner Jerry Jones when the lockout was temporarily lifted, but Bryant never showed.

Jones dismisses the missed meeting as being no real event and says that he is not concerned about Dez Bryant. When the Cowboys drafted Bryant, the wide receiver had indicated that it was his life-long dream to play for the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are hoping that the threat of losing that dream will be enough to help Bryant get back on the right path and be a productive member of the team.

Dallas Cowboys Update: Free Agents Are Disappearing

March 8, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Sports betting experts know that the Dallas Cowboys need help in the defensive secondary. As the 2011 March Madness betting approaches, the free agency signings continue and the Cowboys are missing out. Even though the sportsbook promo observers believe there is a good chance that the players will get locked out by the owners when the contract extension expires on Friday; that is not stopping the teams from signing free agents.

When free agency started, the betting services were curious to see how long it would take the Cowboys to sign a marquee safety or cornerback. So far Bob Sanders and O.J. Atogwe have both come and gone without so much as a sound from Valley Ranch. It could be that the Cowboys are waiting to see what the new collective bargaining agreement will look like before signing players. If that is the case, then the Cowboys will continue to miss out on opportunities. If the Cowboys are hoping to solve their secondary problem in the draft, then they are taking a huge risk.

The labor dispute has reached to all corners of the Cowboys’ organization. Despite the possibility that there could be no training camp and preseason, officials at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX are still preparing to host part of the Cowboys’ training camp this summer. All of the preparations for Cowboys training camp in San Antonio in July are being made, but if the players get locked out on Friday then the work will stop along with training camp preparations all over the NFL.

The players are starting to speak out about the current labor negotiations as well. Tight end and offensive team leader Jason Witten has said that he was hoping for some sort of miracle to prevent the March 4 lockout. When that small miracle happened, Witten says that it made him hopeful that the two sides will have an agreement in place before the next scheduled deadline of March 11.

Running back Tashard Choice is not being as forgiving as Witten. Choice used his Twitter account to send a message that he felt the owners were being greedy when it came to the most recent negotiations. None of the owners have commented on Choice’s message, but Choice posted a follow up message thanking the fans for their support throughout the difficult contract renewal period.

The Cowboys followed up on their promise to make sure that offensive lineman Doug Free stays in Dallas by placing a first and third-round tender offer on the 27-year-old veteran. That means that if any team wants to try and sign Free away from the Cowboys, they will have to give up a first and third-round pick. Other tender offers extended by the Cowboys include second-round tenders to defensive players Stephen Bowen and Jason Hatcher along with a seventh-round tender to safety Alan Ball. Free’s deal is worth $3.4 million, Bowen and Hatcher get $1.9 million and Ball’s deal is worth $1.2 million.
