Pitching Changes for the 2010 Texas Rangers Home Opener
The biggest change you will notice on opening day 2010 is the Texas Rangers pitching rotation, Kevin Millwood is out and Rich Harden is in. I like this move, and the reason for this is that any rotation with Kevin Millwood as the ace is not a good rotation in my opinion. The knock on Rich Harden is that he is injury prone, however he has a lot better stuff. The main reason I like this is that I would rather lose by taking a chance to improve the team, rather than stand pat with a guy who is not going to take us anywhere.

    By the Numbers:

  • ERA:
    Harden – 3.39
    Millwood – 4.02
  • K’s per Inning:
    Harden – 1.04
    Millwood – .78

Scott Feldman has continued to dominate this spring, just like he did last season, and for this reason he edged out Rich Harden as the Texas Rangers starting pitcher for Opening Day 2010. I think that Feldman deserves the start for his success last season.

C.J. Wilson who has been a mainstay in the Texas Rangers Bullpen will be a part of the Texas Rangers starting rotation on opening day, so don’t be worried when you don’t see him running out of the bullpen. C.J. has looked really good in the spring as a starter, and I am excited to see how this shakes out.

Other changes to the rotation will be the absence of Derek Holland and Brandon McCarthy will start of the 2010 season in tripple-A, Tommy Hunter is on the DL and will need a rehab assignment when he comes off. I imagine he will replace Lewis or Harrison if either one of them struggles. This is how the Texas Rangers pitching Staff will look like on opening day of the 2010 season:

    Starting Rotation

  • Scott Feldman – 2009 ERA: 4.08
  • Rich Harden – 2009 ERA: 4.09
  • C.J. Wilson – 2009 ERA: 2.81 (as a relief pitcher)
  • Colby Lewis – 2009 ERA: N/A
  • Matt Harrison – 2009 ERA: 6.11
  • Bullpen

  • CL – Frank Francisco
  • RP – Darren Oliver
  • RP – Chris Ray
  • RP – Neftali Feliz
  • RP – Darren O’Day
  • RP – Dustin Nippert
  • RP – Doug Mathis
  • RP – Willie Eyre

Field Changes for the 2010 Texas Rangers Home Opener
The biggest news this offseason was no doubt the signing of Vlad “the Ranger Killer” Guerrero coming to the Rangers. Vlad has absolutely mashed the ball at the ballpark in Arlington, I expect him to be better than he was last year with the Angels. First being the DH will cut down on the injuries that plagued him last year. Finally playing at the ballpark in Arlington on a regular basis will help him tremendously in the stats department. If Josh Hamilton can stay healthy this season Vlad and Hamilton will create a pretty salty combination. The Rangers lost fan favorite Marlon Byrd due to money constraints because of captain douche “Tom Hicks”. Julio Borbon will start the season in center field, but is a defensive liability due to his weak arm.

Here is what the Field will look like on opening day 2010:

  • C – Jarrod Saltalamacchia
  • 1B – Chris Davis
  • 2B – Ian Kinsler
  • SS – Elvis Andrus
  • 3B – Michael Young
  • LF – Josh Hamilton
  • CF – Julio Borbon
  • RF – Nelson Cruz
  • DH – Vladimir Guerrero

Conclusion
The 2010 Texas Rangers season will be decided by injuries, if the team can stay healthy the sky is the limit for this squad. However this team is not as deep as it has been in the past few seasons, so a string of injuries could easily put the season in jeopardy.
